Doja Cat Wore Balmain To The 2025 MTV VMAs
Doja Cat made the 2025 MTV VMAs red carpet her stage, once again. Having already teased us with her Outside Lands set, where she leaned hard into ’80s references for her upcoming album Vie, it was only fitting that she carried that same energy to this event.
Her pastel blue-and-yellow harlequin Balmain Pre-Fall 2024 mini dress feels, once again, that it was pulled straight from a Jem and the Holograms episode, and I mean that as the highest compliment. The yellow platform heels and Tammy Wynette-inspired hairstyle sealed the retro fantasy—so much so that one glance and you instantly know which decade she’s dialing up.
You may disagree, but it doesn’t feel like costume. There’s a sense of commitment and wit to the way she wears these looks that makes them fun rather than gimmicky. The lipstick-shaped Judith Leiber clutch and Chopard jewels were just the cheeky cherry on top.
This was Doja Cat fully living in her pop star world, proving that sometimes leaning into nostalgia is exactly how you create something fresh.
This isn’t the first outing for this dress—Ashley Madekwe wore it at the 2024 Critics’ Choice Awards, proving just how much styling can transform a look.
