Following her breezy, summery look at the Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning photocall, Angela Bassett returned for the Cannes Film Festival premiere doing a complete 180—in mood, season, and energy.

Dressed in a ruched chiffon and fringed Burberry Fall 2025 gown, it felt like the colour had drained out of her wardrobe. Yes, Angela looked beautiful—because when doesn’t she?—but this felt muted for a woman who’s a master of high-impact glamour.

She’s a Cannes leading lady amongst all the guests in attendance. She should’ve swept in with drama, and colour. Instead, this had the quiet energy I’d expect from someone like Monica Bellucci during the Beetlejuice press tour—not the Angela Bassett I know and cheer for on every red carpet.

The Judith Leiber popcorn clutch was a cute twist, but honestly, it only highlighted how much fun was missing from the dress. I just wanted more. More colour, more power, more Angela.
