Seeing Michelle Yeoh on the red carpet at the 2025 Critics’ Choice Awards should have been a moment of pure sartorial delight. Instead, I found myself mentally drafting a rescue plan. Because let’s be honest—if this Balenciaga Fall 2024 Couture strapless dress doesn’t scream blink twice if you need help, I don’t know what does.
Balenciaga are insane if they think wrapping a bunch of technical jackets together and calling it a strapless gown is acceptable for a woman of Michelle’s style, beauty, and sheer elegance. She is Michelle Yeoh—an icon, an Oscar winner, a woman who commands respect and adoration.
My heart bleeds for her because she deserves so much better than this dystopian outerwear experiment. It’s awful on every conceivable level—structurally, aesthetically, and emotionally (because yes, this is personally upsetting).
Meanwhile, supremely talented designers are being shuffled out of major fashion houses after 18 months, yet Demna is somehow still out here making this and getting away with it. The mind boggles.
Normally, I’d be distracted by her Richard Mille watch, but that is the least offensive thing here.
