Presidential Candidate Kamala Harris Wore Chic Burgundy Suit and Iconic Pearls for Democratic National Convention

Kamala Harris captivated her supporters at the Democratic National Convention – and around the nation – with her powerful appearance alongside her new VP pick. Plus, her understated yet very chic fashion choices made a clear statement. Harris wore a chic double-breasted burgundy suit, and she was the very picture of confidence and sophistication. Even this classic look that she has been rocking for her decades-long career somehow looks more presidential!
The star of the ensemble, though, was Harris’s delicate pearl necklace, designed by fellow Californian Irene Neuwirth. It brought her backstory to the forefront with some not-so-subtle symbolism. She wore the pearls as a nod to her sisters in Alpha Kappa Alpha, the first Black sorority she joined at Howard University. The sorority, founded by women known as the “Twenty Pearls,” gives new members a unique piece of jewelry adorned with 20 pearls, as a symbol of refinement and wisdom.
She paired her statement piece with a simple pair of stud earrings and a classic watch. The overall look was chic and put-together, and these small, subtle additions really allowed the burgundy suit and iconic pearls to take center stage.
And we’ve seen that throughout her career: Kamala’s fashion choices have always been more than just about style. Instead, they reflect her steady progressive stances and decades of dedicated service. This appearance at the DNC was no different. The burgundy suit and pearls served as a powerful reminder of her commitment to breaking barriers and setting new standards, both in politics and fashion.
It definitely has us wondering what she’ll wear if she makes it to Inauguration Day!
