Atelier Prabal Gurung @ The 2022 Met Gala

Kiki Layne in Atelier Prabal Gurung - 2022 Met Gala

Prabal Gurung dressed Kiki Layne, Ashley Park, Mindy Kaling, Denée Benton and Michelle Yeoh for the 2022 Met Gala held in New York City on Monday (May 2) joining Camila Cabello.

When it comes to statement making colours, pink appears to be Kiki Layne’s colour of choice.

Her custom Atelier Prabal Gurung gown, plus her afro combined to represent the balance of enslaved African Americans and the elite African Americans of the Gilded Age.

As you know Kiki is my girl, but I promise you there is no bias when I say that she was one of the best dressed on the night.

I think she encapsulated the theme perfectly.

Ashley Park in Atelier Prabal Gurung - 2022 Met Gala

Ashley Park is fashion’s newest ‘It Girl.’

For me, this comes from her love for experimenting with fashion.

Her Atelier Prabal Gurung hot-pink corset and black-and-white ostrich-feather skirt was designed to create a deconstructed gilded-age look featuring a bustle at the back.

Supporting another Asian designer on the night, she wore a selection of Mimi So jewels.

Custom dyed Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudist Hollywood’ platforms completed her look.

Mindy Kaling in Atelier Prabal Gurung - 2022 Met Gala

Mindy Kaling was a lovely vision in lavender Atelier Prabal Gurung.

Usually, I would question someone wearing their hair down when they have that much detail on the shoulders, but in this case I wouldn’t change a thing about this look.

De Beers jewelry and lavender Jimmy Choo ‘Anouk’ pumps completed her look.

Denée Benton in Atelier Prabal Gurung - 2022 Met Gala

Had it not been for the puckering on the bodice, Denée Benton’s Atelier Prabal Gurung strapless dress would’ve been my favourite of this group.

The bustle skirt is divine.

TASAKI jewels and pink Jimmy Choo ‘Bling’ mules completed her look.

Michelle Yeoh in Atelier Prabal Gurung - 2022 Met Gala

When it comes to Michelle Yeoh’s Atelier Prabal Gurung cape gown, I adore the colour and the design, but not how the fabric looks.

Prabal Gurung used upcycled materials and transformed them it into something new in these beautiful designs, which is commendable, but in Michelle and Camila case, I didn’t love the final outcome.
