Dan Levy Wore Loewe To The 2021 Met Gala

Dan Levy Wore Loewe To The 2021 Met Gala

Before I get into the final menswear roundup, I need to give Dan Levy’s Met Gala debut look its own platform, because his Loewe look isn’t just about fashion, as it made an incredibly powerful statement.

Inspired by the ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’ theme, Dan collaborated with Loewe’s creative director Jonathan Anderson to create a look that celebrates “the resilience and the love and the joy” of the LGBTQIA+ community.

The bespoke look contains the work of one of the most influential LGBTQIA+ activists, the late David Wojnarowicz.

Imagined in what a ‘gay superhero’ might wear, the outfit takes inspiration from two of the artist’s seminal works – F*ck You F*ggot F*cker, 1984, and Untitled (One Day This Kid), 1990/91.

Rather than feed on the message of hate, the work celebrates same-sex love.

Photos of Wojnarowicz and his friends surround the couple, amid a background of world maps, indicating arbitrary borders and divisions the queer community faced.

Even without the context, this was so beautiful, giving us everything we want from a Met Gala look.

Dramatic puffed mutton sleeves, bold colours, and Cartier diamonds.

A Loewe T-pouch illustrates a portrait of the artist as a sweet, innocent child (Untitled (OneDay This Kid…), and JW Anderson Fall 2010 boots, infused pink and blue flowers, completed one of the most iconic looks we’ve seen at the Met Gala to date.

To honor the collaboration, LOEWE has donated to Visual AIDS, an organization Wojnarowicz supported, that continues to promote AIDS awareness and education.
