I was waiting for enough men to hit the red carpet during the 2021 Cannes Film Festival and when I saw Josh O’Connor, I knew the time had come for the roundup.
‘The Crown’ actor and Loewe have struck up a very fruitful partnership which flourished during awards season and continued into this festival.
The majority haven’t been as enthused as I have about his Loewe choices which are often less conventional and more sailor, or private schoolboy.
That theme wasn’t apparent in his latest tailoring.
As you know I love to see colours other than black, grey or navy on the red carpet, but the shoes have to be part of the equation as well.
Sadly the black loafers didn’t float my boat as much as the suit did.
A Bvlgari timepiece completed his look.
Spike Lee, who sat on the Cannes Film Festival jury panel alongside Maggie Gyllenhaal, has also been making a splash fashion wise wearing two custom looks from Louis Vuitton.
The first, a hot pink suit which in terms of colour explains the shades.
I also love how he stayed even truer to his style with the Air Jordan 1 PE sneakers, which are customised with his face on the tongue.
The legendary director may have turned down the colour, but the flare was shining just as brightly in his second custom Louis Vuitton black suit, while his wife Tonya Lewis Lee looked gorgeous in an orange Valentino Haute Couture gown styled with Messika jewels.
Kingsley Ben-Adir wore a midnight blue Brunello Cucinelli suit to the premiere of ‘Benedetta’ where he was honoured with the Trophée Chopard Award.
The look was styled with a Chopard L.U.C XPS timepiece in platinum with a matchy blue dial.
I say I want more colourwise from the fellas, but this navy look made me melt.
Adam Driver, who is the face of the yet to be named and unveiled scent for Burberry, which will be the first under Riccardo Tisci’s tenure, wore a classic Burberry tuxedo.
Burberry has been his go-to brand for a while, but this will make things official, much like his association with Breitling.
Matt Damon opted to wear a Celine suit, which I am going to assume was not a custom look on account of length of those trousers.
