Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge In Catherine Walker – King’s College London & The Foundling Museum

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge In Catherine Walker - King's College London

This morning (March 19), Queen Elizabeth and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge visited at King’s College London, which was surprisingly only their second dual engagement in seven years. The first was back in 2012.

The royal women were there to tour the recently renovated Bush House, and to meet with academics at the university.

The Queen was looking as splendid as ever in a pink Stewart Parvin look.

Catherine,  in what I feel was a deliberate effect to not outshine the Queen, wore a grey Catherine Walker dress that fused clean lines and a timeless silhouette with a decidedly vintage undertone.

She styled her dress with thick tights, Gianvito Rossi heels, a Mulberry clutch and Lock & Co hat.

Later in the day Catherine paid a solo visit to The Foundling Museum.

On this occasion she opted to forgo the hat she had worn with the Queen.

It’s likely that the hat had been worn as a sign of respect for the Queen,  as Lizzy rarely leaves the palace without one.

In general, I wish Catherine and Meghan would take colour style inspo from the queen.

The Queen looks great. The dress the Duchess is wearing looks like how I envision a wealthy pre-teen who lives in the English countryside in some rambling manor and plays with porcelain dolls would dress. It’s not something I would expect to see an adult woman wearing.

She looks immaculate as usual, though I must say I prefer her McQueen pieces to her Catherine Walker dresses.

    I just love the Queen.

Love the cut on the skirt of Kate’s dress. Really sharp and adds some movement. The black collar echos her belt buckle and is a nice whimsical touch.

The hat is the same one The Duchess wore on her first engagement with The Queen. I think it is a lovely nod.

I don’t know if HM would EVER leave home without a hat (unless she was wearing a tiara). Something to do with old English aristocratic rules, non?
The only occasions when we see her without a hat is when she is indoor at her own place in the evening, or for receptions where she wears tiaras.

What I wouldn’t give to see them swap outfits.

The Queen looks wonderful in her pink coat. Love Kate’s dress. Her hair is amazing.
