2019 Critics’ Choice Awards Red Carpet Roundup

2019 Critics’ Choice Awards Red Carpet Roundup

There’s a bounty of looks to discuss from the 2019 Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday (January 13) in Santa Monica, California. Celebrities joined Charlize TheronRachel Brosnahan and Kiki Layne.

Catherine O’Hara: Some pizzazz was added to the ‘Schitt’s Creek’ actress’s Georges Chakra Fall 2018 suit with the embellishment and jewels. Stella Luna shoes rounded out the tailored style.

Maggie Gyllenhaal: The silvery yellow Prada gown might not be the best but the petal-like sleeves and open back worked in her favor, especially with the juxtaposition of the dark lip.

Sandra Oh: Irene Neuwirth jewels and the keyhole neckline on the Best Actress in a Drama Series winner’s Atelier Prabal Gurung gown and temper the severe mood. Same goes for the curly hair.

Kristen Bell: The presenter was brilliant in blue in Cushnie Pre-Fall 2019. The gown has such a liquid drape with the mesh neckline heightening the allure.

Nina Dobrev: She has had some fantastic moments in red. This Valentino gown with a Jimmy Choo ‘Clemmie’ clutch was a pretty turn, if not the most memorable. The styling brings it down.

Poppy Delevingne: Looking whimsical in white, the model-actress wore Oscar de la Renta, Kallati Jewelry, a Jimmy Choo ‘Celeste’ clutch and Christian Louboutin ‘Louloudancing’ platforms. The open neckline adds plenty of va-va-voom with the earrings being a brilliant frame.

Lucy Boynton: The ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ actress showed her fashion credentials in Gucci. It wasn’t the average awards season look with its quirky-yet-girlish mix of bows and frills.

Connie Britton: This chartreuse green is not a colour we see often on the red carpet, but the twinkling Galvan London gown was a fantastic choice for her hair colour and for its sensuality.

Millicent Simmonds: The young actress charmed in a Marchesa Notte Pre-Fall 2019 gown with Christian Louboutin ‘Pigalle Follies’ pumps. It was an appropriate choice for someone of her 15 years.

Michelle Yeoh: We can always count on the Malaysian actress to exude grace and her one-shouldered Marchesa was no exception. It has just the right amount of whimsy for her aesthetic.  A Tory Burch ‘Ophelia’ Mother of Pearl minaudière rounded out this glamorous outing.

Laura Dern: The Best Actress in a Movie Made for TV or Limited Series nominee stunned in a sexy Saint Laurent gown. The typical sequined style was sexed up with the slashed bodice.

Laura Harrier: The American beauty was naturally outfitted in Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2019 and Louis Vuitton pumps. It’s elegant with just the right amount of disco sentiment, but I still am craving more colour.

Kirby Howell Baptiste: The writer-actress looked dreamy in Reem Acra Resort 2019 with Stella Luna shoes and Dena Kemp jewels. The slit served as an alluring counterpoint to the soft draping.

Betty Gilpin: Marrying edgy with drama and feminine charm, the ‘Glow’ actress wore a J. Mendel gown with APM Monaco jewels. I’m left wanting more from the finishing touches.

Thomasin McKenzie: The New Zealand actress looked like the belle of the ball in this highly decorative Valentino gown. The flourish of the red bow took it to new heights.

Indya Moore: The accessorising brought her Louis Vuitton Resort 2019 gown and Louis Vuitton shoes into dangerous costume territory.

Rhea Seehorn: Hers was no wallflower look. The Rubin Singer gown with Hearts On Fire jewels had plenty of drama yet it retained a sense of refinement.

Judith Light: The actress continued to march to the beat of her own drum in Christian Siriano Pre-Fall 2019 separates. Some might call the oversized spots clownish and too casual.

Debra Messing: The ‘Will & Grace’ star showcased a different geometric design in a Lucia Rodriguez gown which highlighted exquisite craftsmanship, but lacked colour.

Yalitza Aparicio: The ‘Roma’ star had a princess moment in Prada. The contrasting harness detail might prove divisive for the way it distracts from the wrapped bodice.

Glenn Close: The Best Actress winner exuded grace in a custom Gabriela Hearst suit with Stella Luna kitten heels and an Edie Parker ‘Jean’ clutch. It feels right in her element.

Angela Bassett: The ageless actress turned heads in a highly embellished Jenny Packham dress with Gismondi1754 and Vendorafa jewelry and an Emm Kuo clutch. You can tell she feels fabulous in it.

Issa Rae: The Best Actress in a Comedy Series nominee turned up the sensuality in Aliétte by Jason Rembert with a Jimmy Choo ‘Leonis’ clutch and Christian Louboutin ‘Jonatina’ sandals. It’s a shame it seems to be pulling at the slit.

Mandy Moore: The ‘This Is Us’ actress’s custom Michael Kors Collection dress was clean, fresh and offered a surprise at the sides.

Dominique Jackson: The colour combination of her August Getty Atelier Fall 2016 gown and Emm Kuo clutch is elegant, but the styling is endanger of sending the look into prom territory.

Chrissy Metz: Looking pretty in pink, the ‘This Is Us’ actress showed her girly side in custom Kate Spade New York.

America Ferrera: The presenter provided a fresh update on suiting in A.L.C. with Jimmy Choo ‘Kendra’ platforms and a Tyler Ellis clutch. It’s intriguing but I crave a crisper finish.

Elizabeth Olsen: Not bothered about showing leg and cleavage, she wore an inky Alexandre Vauthier mini with a Christian Louboutin ‘Vanite’ clutch and Christian Louboutin ‘Iriza’ pumps.

Linda Cardellini: Many are fatigued by sheer dresses so her Zuhair Murad Resort 2019 gown with Stuart Weitzman ‘Disco’ sandals will be a hard sell.

Haley Lu Richardson: The fit and pointed neckline of the ‘Support the Girls’ actress’s Versace Spring 2018 gown is what the eye is drawn to rather than the daring slit and Giuseppe Zanotti sandals.

Anna Paquin: The former ‘True Blood’ actress’s Jenny Packham Resort 2019 ensemble was appropriate for the season and had the designer’s signature sophisticated elegance, but it will likely fade into the background.

Marina de Tavira: Unfortunately the intention of the Mexican beauty’s Vivienne Westwood Couture gown seems lost with the uneven hems feeling more like a mistake.
