Princess Charlene of Monaco In Atelier Versace – 70th Monaco Red Cross Ball Gala

Princess Charlene of Monaco proved her that lightening does indeed strike twice at the 70th Monaco Red Cross Ball Gala on Friday (July 27) in Monte-Carlo, Monaco.

That’s because she wore the most beautiful shimmering Atelier Versace gown, as she did at last year’s event.

Adorned in glittering degrade scale Swarovski motifs in the tones of blue, gold and crystal which made her shine like a beautiful mermaid, you don’t need the close ups to see how much detail has gone into making this masterpiece.

I have a feeling the dramatic grey eye makeup may swerve some people, but I love the entire look which included Versace blue silk satin sandals and a silver metallic clutch.

    BDOTW…she looks absolutely stunning. Perfection.

She looks sad. I like the makeup and the dress is nice enough but the chains make it look a little odd. Also, how unfair is that – she “has to” strike out every year and her husband just looks same plain old, slightly overweight in a very boring jacket and in poorly fitted pants. Ugh. I’ll take LV harness look of Chadwick Boseman over this “classical dressing” any day.

This looks tacky. Not a fan at all.

Beautiful but dated. I would loose those chains in the bust and bring up the neck line instead. The dress is already busy enough.

I love it. She looks statuesque

I can’t even imagine what would people be saying if Meghan Markle wore this kind of dress (bare shoulders, cleavage etc). So not fair

Oh poor Meghan, the most oppressed person in the world. Alexa, play Despacito.

Nice. I like the detail and the shimmery color.

I think she looks great! The design is definitely reminiscent of Marion Cotillard’s JPG gown, as Matt noted below – but has a more glitzy/glamorous feel here on Charlene. It’s really flattering on here and well suited to the event.

My first thought was that the gown is very reminiscent of the Jean Paul Gaultier gown Marion Cotillard wore to the Oscars. I happen to really like the gown, but the bodice does look a tad awkward.

Marion’s JPG Oscar dress and Catherine Zeta Jones Versace 2004 Oscar’s dress came to my mind too after seeing this. It won’t be BDOTY contender but I don’t dislike this.

I have a mild personal aversion to fish scale patterns so that is negative for me with this dress. I can’t get with the eye makeup at all and I am trying. Overall between her expression and the makeup, this whole look feels a bit flat and dated. Does Prince Albert not have access to a tailor to get pants properly hemmed?

    • JHH July 28, 2018 at 4:11 pm #

The aversion must run in the family. My son just walked by my computer saw the dress and said “why is she wearing a fish –yuck?

The whole look feels a little bit dated.

      I agree!
This dress may have worked on somebody else but on she makes it feels dated.
