Cate Blanchett In Givenchy Haute Couture – ‘Capharnaum’ Cannes Film Festival Premiere

While Kristen Stewart was having fun at the amfAR Gala, Cate Blanchett was still fulfilling her official capacity as jury president at the premiere of ‘Capharnaum’ during Cannes Film Festival this evening (May 17).

As expected, I have loved every look that Cate has presented, but that came to a halt this evening.

My issue with this Givenchy Spring 2018 Haute Couture jumpsuit it that – even with the cascading fan – I’m not getting that grandiose, super woman standing 6ft tall vibe I always get from Cate.

The pinstripes feel almost too formal and the overall look has a stumptifying effect.

This is awful. And I do not know of anyone that could pull it off. It doesn’t even look crash-hot on the runway model.

I am not a fan of it. There’s too much going on with the top and don’t like the pants at all. As gorgeous as she looks, neck up, don’t like the look on her.

Not my favorite look from her, but this is pretty cool and unexepcted and she’s the right person to sell it.

This looks so much like Rooney Mara’s look here

The fit is bad; Neck up, she looks good

I can’t believe this is couture! It looks so poorly made, this is a total miss for me.

I don’t mind the trousers as a new proposal for the expected cigarettes but the belt should’ve been kept.

      and she does look stunning!

+1 on the belt and stunning

I’m awaiting cataract surgery, which is relevant because, to me, most black LBDs etc are uninteresting blurs. Not so this look it delighted me at first glance. And it does NOT need the runway belt.

The only item I might have suggested is slightly more interesting shoes.

i think the if the trousers were slimmer and shorter it would make more sense.

I think she looks good actually. I don’t mind any of this.
The pants could of been sleeker and the outfit a different color to make it more exciting I suppose, but overall she looks lovely.

I have to disagree with you on this one Catherine. I love it! She looks so chic and it’s such an interesting, different look. So thankful Cate doesn’t play in to the cookie-cutter Cannes embellished dress look.
I do wish she’d worn the runway belt though.

Omg I love it so much tho!

This would have been so much better if she had on cigarette pants and in a color, like hot pink.

I think I would’ve liked this better on Emma Stone, and maybe with a straight leg. The flare is giving me flashbacks to my student teaching days, and not in a good way.

  14. Sophie May 18, 2018 at 00:22 #

    love it!!

The pants are bringing this look down. Hope she goes out with a bang on sunday.

I’m not particularly excited, mostly because it’s another black look from her, but I don’t think it’s that bad.

+1. I’m a but bummed she hasn’t worn much color during the festival as well. This is definitely missing her usual wow factor, but I do still manage to like it.

It’s ok, but it does have a lot of fabric and a lot of black making it all a bit heavy and drab. I was thinking maybe it could have worked better as a column dress with a subtle side split to liven it up a bit. It’s definitely my least favourite look of her Cannes run.

Her hairstyles for this festival have been a little off. This isn’t a jumpsuit that calls for that much of a glamorous head.

  19. lelaid May 17, 2018 at 22:18 #

    Hate those shoes

  20. ANNA May 17, 2018 at 21:40 #

Couldn’t agree more. Maybe with fitted pants and different shoes, but even then I struggle to see how this could work.

  21. Maria F. May 17, 2018 at 21:25 #

I love her hair and make up and the gorgeous earrings.

I agree with Klara, the pant legs are problematic. I also wonder if it would have worked as a dress?

  22. Klara May 17, 2018 at 21:20 #

Gorgeous, even though I don’t like the fit of her pants, it has the va va voom here I am effect, and I love her styling, simply beautiful and ladylike. Maybe a slightly cropped, fitted pants would have been better? Or a straight leg?

  23. Charlotte May 17, 2018 at 21:18 #

The top is a mess and the pants and shoes look cheap and dated.

First reaction I love it. But when I compare it to the runaway version I do wish she would have worn it with the same metallic belt. I’m also not so pleased with the shoe choice but I still like it. Some minor changes and I would have loved it.

Totally how I felt as well.
