Betty Gabriel In Phuong My – 2018 SAG Awards

Betty Gabriel attended the 2018 SAG Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday (January 21).

The ‘Get Out’ actress wore a Phuong My dress that is both unexpected and dramatic.

I can see this dress being quite polarizing among readers, but I for one, am sold. The design of this gown would fall flat in just about any other fabric I can think of–seriously, picture it–but in this unique, tartan-esque print, the dress is pushed into a league all its own. It’s bold, it’s a risk and Betty pulls it off completely.

I also love that her makeup artist chose to match her smokey eye makeup with the color of the dress. The deep green is a fresh choice that really elevates the look beyond what more traditional colors could. The fresh mauve lip is also a smart choice, since it is slightly unexpected, just like the gown.

It’s…pretty cool. Chop the sleeves off and it reminds of the last good look Felicity Jones ever wore, at the Golden Globes a couple years back. I think it looks like a sumptuous period costume. I wish she had styled her hair a little differently; the tight bun and straight tendrils are an odd combination.

If you dig a Mary, Queen of Scots vibe this is a winner. It is a little too reminiscent of that time with the skirt, bodice and sleeves. However, she looks great here and the styling is fantastic.

Too much fabric….too much tartan. But I give her props for trying something different.

i agree. If i am nitpicking – the hair seems to be a bit messy and i would have picked different earrings.

The fabric and design is quite unappealing. It seems so very heavy. Like she’s weighted down.
Its nice that she went for something different but im not on board.

weirdly, I actually wish the cut-out wasn’t there. I like the over-all styling and uniqueness!
