The Christian Dior Fall 2009 collection, started off with a lot of grey suits, and coats. The skirts had bubbled hems, and the coat and hats were trimmed with fur.

The darker colours didn’t last for long, as the presentation became very exotic, with Indian and Asian influences becoming very evident via Harem pants, saris’ and tunic gowns.

The colour palette was black, white and grey, along with fuchsia, red, blue, coral, and sunshine yellow. Some pieces had light metallic effects.

The collection provided lots of volumes and drama, as we have come to expect from John Galliano.

The embellished tunics and saris gowns, I hope will not be watered down, by the time they hit the red carpet, because they were my favourite pieces.

I hope this is the last season we see harem pants presented.

There was no surprise that Charlize Theron attended this show. She was no doubt picking out her red carpet looks for next season.

The star was wearing head-to-toe black…Dior of course. I ♥ her embellished top.

The Balmain Fall 2009 was one of the collections I was eagerly awaiting. Unfortunately it didn’t live up to expectations.

I hate criticizing designers, because I could never do their job, but there was nothing ground-breaking from this collection, and we have come to expect this from Balmain.

I felt more than a touch of de ja vu with a lot of the pieces, with the rise and fall hems, the padded shoulders, embellished mini dresses and sweet-heart necklines replace by pointy necklines. All very Spring 2009.

The pieces will look great on the red carpet, don’t get me wrong, but the only highlights from this collection for me were the electric blue pieces, Anja Rubik, Carmen Kass and Erin Wasson *girl crushes*.

Before sadly leaving New York last week, my last show was the Tadashi Shoji Fall 2009 presentation.

This collection was mostly about cocktail dresses. We were treated to ruffled skirts, halters, one-shouldered, puffy sleeves, satin and strapless cocktail dresses in a range of vibrant colours.

Rose, violet, teal, acid green, red, white and black were the colours used alongside prints, that had a very summery feeling for a Fall collection.

The few gowns that were presented all had a very sleek streamlined silhouette excluding the billowing printed gown above.

If you are looking for something fun and flirty, without having to carry around a long train. This is collection for you. Young actresses will love collection.

Here are just some of my show notes, that I collected over the week. They give a very detailed description of the pieces presented, and help understand more about the fabrics and processes used to create the pieces. A printed cocktail dress then becomes, a Geranium & rose print silk taffeta cascade front dress.

My second to last show at New York Fashion Week was Tia Cibani’s Ports 1961 Fall 2009 presentation. This collection took us on an exotic journey, and that journey was to India.

A Red Baraar Festival!, a Punjabi band started off the show, to get us in the mood.

The models walked the runway with the soothing beats in the background, wearing clothes inspired from Tia’s recent Indian travels. Long, short and glorious lame Sari dresses, Achkan coats, cropped Angarkha jackets, Salwar pants and a stunning ruby ombre jewelled dress were presented.

The exotic colour palette included ruby, henna red, saffron orange, jasmine white, moonstone grey and begonia pink.

The collection took a sophisticated approach on the vibrancy of India’s regal past.

I think a lot of these pieces will be timeless.

Alice + Olivia

Paris Hilton showed off her very long legs wearing a LWD with a embellished bodice, and a multi-layered skirt

She completed her look with silver sparkling heels, and a faux-fur shrug.

Nicky Hilton opted for head-t0-toe black.

I love Kim Kardashian’s white waistcoat and pants set, but I don’t like the hair.

This look is so tailored, that a sleek ponytail or bun, would have worked better for me.

The Hilton sisters were in black and white, so were the Kardashian’s with Khloe being the one to faded to black.

I am loving Kristen Bell’s look. I just got a pair of tapered black trousers like this from H&M, so I think I may steal this look for tomorrow.

Adrienne Bailon looks adorable wearing a pink Alice + Olivia strapless ruffle bib dress. She gave her cutesy look an edge with a biker jacket, and the celebrity uniform shoe – the YSL Trib Two’s.

Tracy Reese

A fresh faced Paris Hilton arrived at this show wearing a red velvet dress, with a lush jacket.

I love this jacket, especially the puffy shoulders.

Nicky paired her leather jacket with a white dress.

This is an adorable LWD from Tracy Reese’s Spring 2009 collection, but again Kim Kardashian’s hair is bothering me.

Kellie Pickler wore a peachy halter with skin-tight jeans. She looked fabulous here, and even better at the Pamella Roland show which I saw her at today, but more on that later.

Jill Stuart

Kristen Bell opted for a gorgeous summery floral strapless dress, with a grey cardigan.

Michelle Trachtenberg wore a grey Jill Stuart Resort 2009 halter neck dress, with a cute bow on the hip.

Jessica Stroup opted for a white floaty dress from the Spring 2009 collection.

Amanda Bynes is wearing a stunning teal dress with a tiered skirt, but she really needs to work on her angles, that pose is so off.

Elie Saab’s Spring 2009 Haute Couture collection was presented in Paris yesterday.

Elie’s gowns – as we have come to expect – were truly feminine, made of silk, chiffon and adorned with plenty of stunning embellishments.

The pastel tones were heavenly, evoking a dreamy like feeling, which is emphasized by the intricate, outstanding details such as the floral appliqués, and the sparkling embellishments, which were not too over-the-top.

Ruffles, tiers, pouffy shoulders, exaggerated hips, and obi belts all helped create some of the most outstandingly beautiful gorgeous red carpet dresses, he has ever created.

The only downside for me was the hair and make-up.

This collection more than most, has ignited my passion for red carpet gown. Bring on the Oscars.

Cate would so own that black one-shouldered gown, whereas Beyonce, I guess, would go for the heavenly peachy pastels.

Dita Von Teese was in the front row looking tres chic, wearing an all black Elie Saab Fall 2008 ensemble, which consisted of a jacket with a large rosette details on the collar and cuffs, a pencil skirt, Louboutin pumps, and a large bag, which was also detailed with rosettes.

Mischa Barton was also in the front row wearing a sparkling one-sleeved navy Elie Saab Fall 2008 cocktail dress, with Louboutin’s.

Her hair looks a bit disheveled for this dress, and although I am not a fan of one-shouldered anything, this dress works for her.

The Chanel Spring 2009 Haute Couture collection was a vision in pure white, with the occasional dash of black breaking up the ethereal theme.

The traditional Chanel suit was reworked in new fabrics, with sequins, PVC, appliqué and delicate embroidery taking over from the expected bouclé.

Karl Lagerfeld presented a-lines and square shouldered shapes. Skinny pants, shrinking jackets, cropped sleeves, and fantasy gowns.

The paper rosette headpieces were simply divine, and provided the perfect finishing touch.

The venue was covered in tumbling organza, appliqué flowers and gigantic paper blooms to set the ethereal tone at the Chanel show.

We are not used to seeing a lot of white on the red carpet, so I would be interested in seeing who would wear these pieces.

Olga Kurylenko was back to her breath-taking best wearing a tailored white skirt, and a sleeveless black sweater, with stunning statement necklace. All Chanel of course.

Sporting fresh cut bangs, Keira Knightley – the face of Coco Mademoiselle – was also head to toe in Chanel.

She looks gorgeous wearing a fabulous tweed skirt, a black sweater and studded heels.

Tres Chic.
