Black and White Celebrity Trend

What’s black and white and seated front row at Paris fashion week?

Celebs, of course.

One of the major trends which reigned supreme at the Spring 2013 shows was black and white, ranging from mod 60s looks at Prada and Louis Vuitton, stripes at Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabbana and Michael Kors, and classic pieces at Chanel, Ralph Lauren and Saint Laurent, with Alexander Wang, Balmain, Narciso Rodriguez, Victoria Beckham, Jil Sander, and Moschino also sending solid, patterned or striped black-and-white looks down the runway.

The celebs who have championed this trend this week were Nicole Richie, who attended both the Stella McCartney and Givenchy shows in black and white, and Jessica Alba, who also rocked the trend at Stella McCartney and Valentino.

Chanel’s front row is one place we shouldn’t be surprised to see celebs showcasing this Spring 2013 trend. The elegant Jessica Chastain wore a white ruffled blouse with a pencil skirt, while Milla Jovovich rocked a masculine black-and-white pant look.

Usually one to start trends, Anna Dello Russo also took to the front row at Chanel wearing a playful black-and-white look, which would’ve been better suited to Elle Fanning, methinks.

The best thing about this trend is that it’s easy to wear and affordable. You can rock it with the simplest staples, like vest tops, tees, skirts, pants and dresses.

Stripes might be the hardest look to rock; take it too far and you could end up looking like you are wearing prison stripes.

2013VanityFair_HaileeSteinfeld

Hailee Steinfeld joined a host of other PYTs at the 2013 Vanity Fair Oscars Party, hosted by editor Graydon Carter last night at the Sunset Tower in West Hollywood.

But her Valentino dress was neither pretty nor young.

The heavy leather gown, paired with a Jill Milan clutch, was a near sin for this actress. Her girlish figure was completely covered up from head to toe in overwrought fabric. I couldn’t get past that white bib either.

This is what ‘Little House on the Prairie’ goes goth looks like.

The undone updo didn’t help matters here either, although she really couldn’t have worn her hair down.

At the sweet age of 16, this bright-eyed starlet can do so much better.

Hilary Swank had everyone seeing red, as she kept the Valentino trend going at the 2013 Vanity Fair Oscars Party at Hollywood’s Sunset Tower on Sunday night.

Wearing a crimson gown from the design house’s Spring 2013 Couture runway, the actress couldn’t be missed at Graydon Carter’s soiree.

With this sheer, long-sleeve entrance, I found myself wondering three things: Is there such thing as too much red? Is it possible to be seductively sexy and vaguely matronly at once? And how many times will her daringly long train be stepped on throughout the evening?

Hilary’s exaggerated, side-swept retro wave was right on trend, but a simple updo might have fared better with this extravagant gown.

With the criss-cross bodice and the see-through quality, I was actually reminded of Rihanna’s 2013 Grammy Awards dress.

Did you think this look was on fire, or did it need to be extinguished?

A Swarovski clutch completed her look.

After her oh-so-cool Chanel jumpsuit, worn earlier today, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley went in a totally different style direction at the 2013 Vanity Fair Oscars Party, hosted on Sunday evening at the Sunset Tower in Hollywood.

Like fellow model Miranda Kerr, she wore a Valentino Fall 2012 Couture dress, except hers was a dusty pink shade.

And, once again, I’m shocked to say that I’m left underwhelmed.

The off-the-shoulder detail and the layers and layers of ruffles delivered a strange sort of Moulin Rouge moment, especially with the cabaret choker. The dress would have seen worlds of improvement if that little neckpiece had been left on the runway.

Even her gorgeous glossy waves and pretty fuchsia-pink lippie seemed at odds with this gown.

‘Girls’ starlet Allison Williams walked on the white side at the 2013 Vanity Fair Oscars Party at Sunset Tower in California on Sunday night.

She looked delightful in a chic outing from the Valentino Spring 2013 runway. I loved the cap sleeve.

Even the heavy brocade-like embroidery of this fabric translated as light and fresh on the young actress, who has recently impressed on the red carpet.

A side-parted updo and a peach lippie were chic additions to this look, while a statement earring and cocktail ring provided a hint of sparkle.

Talk about an ‘it’ girl.

Miranda Kerr made waves at the 2013 Vanity Fair Party held at the Sunset Tower in Hollywood, California tonight.

The supermodel selected a Valentino Fall 2012 Couture dress. On most anyone else, such a design—which was equal parts seductive siren and glamorous nightgown—would have not worked.

Miranda manages to pull it off, flaunting several of the evening’s trends, including the baroque look, with the top-to-bottom embellishment on this smokey-coloured gown.

Sleeves were definitely having a moment, too, as we also saw such stars as Zooey Deschanel and Leslie Mann go long.

Side-swept waves and a bold red lip provided a glamour-filled finish.
