Marion Cotillard For W Magazine December 2012

Marion Cotillard graces the December cover of W Magazine wearing Dior Couture, of course.

The French actress wore this same coat in black last week, whereas LeeLee Sobieski wore the same red coat during Fashion Week.

Tim Walker shot the cover and the accompanying editorial, featuring the actress wearing pieces by Jean Paul Gaultier, Chanel, Lanvin, Valentino and a very avant-garde Iris Van Herpen look.

With ‘Rust and Bone’ set to hit theatres on November 23rd, Marion talked to the mag about her acting inspiration, her childhood, her first American movie, ‘Big Fish’, and her Oscar experience.

You can read some highlights below. The whole interview can be read over at Wmagazine.com.

On her acting inspiration: “Both my parents were actors, and their favorite was Charlie Chaplin. My mother’s favorite actress was Greta Garbo.”

On whether she was a dramatic child: “I always wanted to express myself by being someone other than myself. I needed to experience the human soul—something more than just my soul. I wasn’t enough! When I was 10 or 11, I played an angry housekeeper in a play at camp. I was yelling at everyone. I remember the feeling I had when it was over. I really loved it.”

On her first major American movie Big Fish: “I was a big fan of Beetlejuice, and I really wanted to work with Tim Burton. I remember I kept the pages of the scenes under my pillow for a month. I don’t know if that’s why I got the part, but I know I wished for it every night.”

On her Oscar experience: “It was amazing. In France, we have a lot of actors, but you never get a chance to share your experiences. In America, you show the movie, and you talk about it with actors who know what it’s like to open your heart, soul, and mind to another person and let them in. I especially feel very close to other actresses…I love actresses. I love them! When there’s a movie without an actress in it, I miss something. Without a woman, it’s not the same.”

Marion Cotillard In Christian Dior Couture – Printemps Haussmann Christmas Illuminations

On Friday evening, Marion Cotillard had the honour of turning on the Christmas lights at Printemps Haussmann in Paris, France.

The actress wore her third Christian Dior look of the week; on this occasion she donned a black wool coat from the Fall 2012 Couture collection.

A steel waist-cinching belt accented the coat, which featured wide lapels and oversized pockets.

Black satin Dior pumps and a chic updo completed the look.

Many of you are o.v.e.r Marion’s continual Dior run.

We all know she’s the face of the Dior and has been for some time, but this non-stop Dior fest is a bit much, and is starting to feel very much like a chore.

We have had a few breaks where she wore Azzaro and McQ Alexander McQueen, but surely her contract with the fashion house should allow her a little more variety before her red carpet look becomes stale.

You may remember that LeeLee Sobieski wore a similar red version of this look last month to the Dior Spring 2013 fashion show in Paris.

The red would’ve been a far more interesting choice for Marion, who has worn mostly black Dior looks.

Marion Cotillard In Christian Dior – ‘Rust and Bone’ New York Premiere

The Cinema Society with Dior & Vanity Fair held a screening of ‘Rust and Bone’ at Landmark Sunshine Cinema in New York City yesterday evening.

Marion Cotillard was of course in attendance, wearing yet another look from the Christian Dior Spring 2013 collection… yep, that’s four looks now.

On this occasion she wore a cape-like sheer shimmering dress with black web-like sequin embellishments.

While I like the idea behind the look, it’s too shapeless for my personal tastes. I would’ve been tempted to belt it, but that would ruin the trailing effect at the back.

Allowing her natural beauty to shine through, the French actress opted for minimal makeup and a high, tight bun.

Dior pointy black patent pumps completed her look.

Marion Cotillard In Christian Dior – ‘Rust and Bone’ AFI Fest Premiere

Marion Cotillard’s next stop on her promo tour for her latest movie was Grauman’s Chinese Theatre where she attended the premiere for ‘Rust and Bone’ during the 2012 AFI Fest in Hollywood, California, last night.

The actress has been wearing a lot of black Dior dresses lately. On this occasion it was cream-and-black.

Her halter-style dress with a draped skirt with a central split revealing a shorter shirt might not have been your first pick for Marion, but for me it’s a lot more interesting and playful than her previous Dior looks which became samey to say the least.

This look shows a lot more personality and the sparkle I was missing has returned.

Marion’s favoured rolled-and-pinned hairstyle was replaced with a chic updo on this occasion, as she opted for smoky eyes and a nude lip colour.

Chopard jewels and black Dior criss-cross sandals completed her look.

Yay or nay?

Marion Cotillard In McQ Alexander McQueen – The Tonight Show with Jay Leno

Marion Cotillard delights by stepping away from the Dior side of the closet to wear something more playful on ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’ on Friday evening.

The French actress, who made a guest appearance to promote her latest movie ‘Rust and Bone’, wore a McQ Fall 2012 dress.

Her navy and forest-green dress is the perfect blend of classic and contemporary, fusing traditional tartan check evoking fall’s heritage mood, and the sharp feminine cut – featuring a dropped waist and a pleated skirt.

Marion styled her look with the black leather Victorian belt with a gold chain we saw on the McQ Fall 2012 runway and lady-like black Jimmy Choo patent pumps.

With her hair rolled and pinned on both sides, Marion completed her look with a matte pink lip colour.

Marion Cotillard For Harper’s Bazaar UK December 2012

Oscar-winning French actress Marion Cotillard, who was named ‘International Actor of the Year’ at Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards on Wednesday night, graces the cover of their December 2012 issue dressed in Dior and dazzling Tiffany & Co. jewels.

In the rest of her editorial Ben Hassett captured the beauty wearing luxurious gowns by Alexis Mabille, Marchesa and Armani Prive.

Marion talks to Harper’s Bazaar about motherhood, the importance of family and her love of British culture, in particular the series ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ and British rock. She also talks about her new movie ’Rust And Bone’ in which she plays the gritty role of a whale trainer, Stéphanie, who loses her legs in an accident and must battle to embrace love, life and sex.

The December issue of Harper’s Bazaar, which is on sale now and also available as a digital edition, is also dedicated to the winners of the Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards, which were held in London earlier this week in association with Estée Lauder, Harrods and Tiffany & Co.

Here are some extracts from Marion’s interview.

On her love of British culture: “I think of England as music with fashion. You mix rock ‘n’ roll with everything, from royalty to punk to the bourgeoisie. Music-wise, you’re the best. David Bowie, the Rolling Stones, Radiohead, the Beatles….”

On her highlight of 2012: “The return of Absolutely Fabulous. I’m a huge fan.”

On preparing for the role of Stéphanie in her new film, ‘Rust And Bone’: “Well, I mean, I love my job, but I’m not going to cut my legs off. Stéphanie loses her legs. It’s a shock. If she’d been without them for years, I would have worked differently. But I had to learn with her how it felt – that loss. How it changes her.”

On the challenge of acting: “[Being an actor is] like you’re this tightrope walker. Even if you know how to do it, you never know if you’re going to make it to the other side.”

On being a mother to 18-month-old Marcel, her son with French director, writer and actor Guillaume Canet: “Since having Marcel, every day of my life has been alight with him.”

On what’s next for the actress: “I don’t know what’s next because I don’t want to know.”

On finding happiness: “One of the things I have learned recently is that I have the ability to be happy. I have found that in my family. And that is a new thing. And that hasn’t always been the case for me – so I know how lucky I am.”

Marion Cotillard In Christian Dior – Harper’s Bazaar Woman of the Year Awards

Marion Cotillard was on hand to collect the ‘International Actor of The Year’ Award at the 2012 Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards, held at Claridge’s Hotel in London on Wednesday evening.

She really should’ve been collecting the ‘Brand Ambassador for Dior’ Award because she wore her third look from the Christian Dior Spring 2013 collection.

At this rate there will be nothing left for other actresses to choose from.

The French beauty seems to be sticking to the darker, some would say, safer pieces from this collection, donning a navy strapless dress with a fully black tulle rise-and-fall skirt.

While it’s my least favourite of the three, with Marion’s charm and grace she manages to make it work.

Dove grey Dior pumps, Chopard jewels, pink lips and a wavy updo completed her look.
