Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Nail Art

Nails and nail art are increasingly hogging the spotlight at red carpet events as evidenced by E! TV’s Mani Cam, specifically created to get close-up shots of celebrities’ manicures.

Zooey Deschanel kicked off the trend this awards season at the Golden Globes with a movie-themed manicure featuring reels of film and film cameras. At the SAG awards three of Anne Hathaway’s bright white nails were adorned with intricate hand-painted black butterflies, Busy Philipps – star of the television show Cougar Town – jazzed up her nude manicure with gold crystal embellishment on just two of her nails, while Big Bang Theory actress Kaley Cuoco sported bold red nails decorated with light pink hearts. And last weekend’s Grammys saw singer Janelle Monae go for just one bejeweled nail on her ring finger, Miranda Lambert flashing glittery gold tips with blue triangles at the base and Jennifer Lopez going to town with white polish, white glitter, gold leaf and gold studs on her pinkie finger.

Kimmie Kyees, a Los Angeles based celebrity manicurist whose clients at the 2013 Grammys included Katy Perry, Rihanna and Adele, told us: ‘In a bad economy, beautiful nails are an inexpensive luxury. Companies like Minx pioneered the nail art trend and now Sally Hansen and Incoco have introduced retail versions of dry nail polish art that have made it truly mainstream and something we can all do at home.’

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, Kimmie has designed a nail just for Redcarpet-fashionawards.com readers. Here’s how to get our custom pink and white heart manicure.

‘Start off applying a base coat like Orly Bonder. Next paint the nails with two coats of CoverGirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in Pink-finity 140.’

‘Using a dotter, put two dots of CoverGirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in Snow Storm side by side on the top third of the nail to make the top of a heart. Then, using a striper brush, pull the white polish down to form the bottom of the heart. It’s super easy and if you mess up you can alway draw a small line of pink over the white to fix the line.’

‘Finally a layer of top coat like Seche Vite seals it all perfectly.’

Topshop LA

Topshop will open its doors for the first time today at The Grove in Califorina.

Last night, Sir Philip Green invited a host of Hollywood stars to help celebrate the grand opening at Cecconi’s West Hollywood on Melrose Avenue.

Ashley Madekwe: The ‘Revenge’ actress was my favourite from this event. She donned a sexy Topshop mixed-texture bodycon dress that I have been cruising for a while. After seeing Ashley, I say she owned it, so I will not be attempting to follow her. Simple styling completed her sporty look.

Solange Knowles: No surprises that Solange picked a look from the edgier Topshop Unique section. Her silk check shirt, cross-print shorts and black blazer were styled with Chanel Spring 2013 striped platform pumps.

Demi Lovato: Even with what appears to be a broken foot, I am not surprised to see Demi Lovato attend this event. The singer and X Factor judge pretty much wears Topshop exclusively and I’m sure this store will become a home away from home for her.

Liberty Ross: The model/actress has gone through some tough times, so I feel bad in saying that her Anthony Vaccarello Fall 2012 dress screams desperate and attention seeking which I find totally ironic.

2013Grammys_JenniferLopez

Jennifer Lopez pushed the limits of the 2013 Grammy Awards‘ tightened dress code, when she sizzled down the red carpet at California’s Staples Center on Sunday night.

She virtually wore only half of a gown with her Anthony Vaccarello Spring 2013 design; an asymmetrical wonder that exposed her entire (perfectly toned) right pin.

It was “a little shoulder and a little leg,” as JLo described it on the red carpet. But from where I was sitting, this was more like “a lot.”

That Angelina Jolie leg jut just won’t disappear.

While no one was paying attention to her accessories, she did increase the shine factor of the dress’s runway version with multiple rings and stacked bangles. More flash came with her sky-high, metallic-accented heels and a matching Jimmy Choo ‘Charlize’ clutch.

A high top knot, a bronze glow and dagger-shaped nails that were overlaid with gold leafing completed the look.

Too leggy or Grammys-appropriate glam?

Jennifer Lopez In Vivenne Westwood - Verzion Wireless Contest Meet & Greet

Jennifer Lopez was in Santa Monica, California on Saturday, where she met with fans who had won the Jennifer Lopez Flyaway Contest which was hosted by Verizon Wireless.

The ‘Parker’ actress wore a bright-red Vivienne Westwood Anglomania Spring 2013 jumpsuit.

Her baggy jumpsuit was styled with Giuseppe Zanotti cut-out boots and a selection of gold jewels to top off her Jenny-from-the-Block look.

With her hair much improved from the premiere last week, she styled her honey tresses into signature blown-out waves.

Jennifer Lopez In Kaufmanfranco - 'Parker' Las Vegas Premiere

Jennifer Lopez donned white again while attending the premiere of her latest movie, ‘Parker’, held at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada – is she dropping a subtle hint to Casper Smart?

This time she opted for a sleek Kaufmanfranco Spring 2013 gown, which shapes the diva to give her a statuesque silhouette.

Her panelled illusion gown featured a sexy open back and sheer panels down the side, which she was only too happy to show off to the photographers.

From the close up, the illusion becomes more obvious. For me, the only designer that has nailed illusion panelling is Reem Acra.

Opting for nude shimmering lips, kohl-rimmed eyes and an updo, she styled the look with a selection of silver jewels and a sparkling black Ferragamo clutch.

BDOTW-worthy? I would say no.

Jennifer Lopez In Lanvin Blanche - 'Parker' New York Screening

After non-stop TV appearances to promote her latest movie ‘Parker’ this week, Jennifer Lopez attended the New York screening held at the Museum of Modern Art yesterday evening.

Dressed in head-to-toe Lanvin, the actress gave us sexy face wearing a pure all-white look.

Her Lanvin Blanche 2013 Bridal peplum strapless frock with a bow accent was styled with white ankle-strap pumps with a gold trim and a matching clutch from the same designer.

When did white pumps become so popular again?

This look is just OK for me. I’m waiting for her to regain her wow factor.

For some reason, when I saw Jennifer she instantly made me think of Kim Kardashian as this frock is something the reality TV star would wear thinking she’s JLo.

Usually envied for her glossy tresses, her hair looks very lacklustre on this occasion as her extensions look dry.
