Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Met Men

To celebrate the new ‘Punk: Chaos to Couture’ exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday, some of the biggest celebs walked down the red carpet. In honour of the exhibit, many of the men chose to give their formal looks a bit of punk inspiration, which made for an exciting menswear event.

Eddie Redmayne: The red carpet phenom added another beautiful look to his collection, wearing a Dior Homme navy-blue wool tuxedo with black grosgrain peak lapels. As always, it fit just right. To finish it off, Eddie added a white cotton shirt, a black satin bow tie, a white pocket square, and black patent-leather derbies.

Frank Ocean: In a Givenchy black tuxedo, Frank looked incredibly dapper for the event. His two-button notch-lapel tux fit well and he paired it classically with a white shirt and black bow tie. To give the outfit a little kick of punk, Frank opted for shoes with silver studs going around the soles – a very cool addition.

Joshua Jackson: I’ve never been OK with wearing a red tie to a red carpet event. It’s cheesy. I don’t like that aspect of his outfit, but I love the beige linen lapels on his Dior Homme black suit. Even though it’s a small detail on his jacket, it made for a stylish look. Joshua topped it off with a white cotton shirt and a Chanel ‘J12 Black Matte Ceramic’ watch.

Alexander Skarsgard In Calvin Klein - ‘What Maisie Knew’ New York Screening

Prepare to swoon as Alexander Skarsgard joined Julianne Moore on the red carpet at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema in New York City on Thursday evening for the ‘What Maisie Knew’ screening.

The actor wore a Calvin Klein black wool two-button notch lapel suit with a charcoal dress shirt and black shoes from the Spring 2013 collection, designed by Italo Zucchelli, the brands’ Men’s Creative Director.

Pushing his good looks to the side momentarily; the suit is a perfect fit – a surprising rarity.

If I was being picky I would say he could’ve undone one more button on his shirt à la Chris Hemsworth to set pulses really racing.

As the current face of the brand, he is serving them very well.

Star Trek Into Darkness - UK Film Premiere

The men of ‘Star Trek Into The Darkness’ have been making us swoon over the past few weeks and that love will deepen for some of you who have been pining for Benedict Cumberbatch – OK, now I get it.

At the London premiere this evening, the handsome trio – wedged between the gorgeous Alice Eve and Zoe Saldana – all wore three-piece suits, much to my delight.

Chris Pine: The handsome actor donned another Ralph Lauren Purple Label suit which was made-to-measure. His grey cashmere herringbone suit was once again styled with that purple tie which many of you disliked in Berlin and a lilac checked shirt. No tan shoes on this occasion. Instead he opted for a black leather pair.

Zachary Quinto: There is something about Zachary that I just can’t get enough of. This evening he worked a three-piece navy-blue notched lapel suit, which by his adventurous standards, was fairly tame, yet he looks so damn handsome. Like Katy Perry his quirky side and strait-laced side delight with equal aplomb.

Benedict Cumberbatch: We all love a bad boy, hence your love for Benedict who is the baddie of the movie. The British actor was dress in all black – including his newly dyed hair – looking very handsome in his classic three-piece suit styled with a black tie, white shirt and white pocket square.

‘The Great Gatsby’ World Premiere Menswear Round Up

The gents weren’t about to be left in the shade for the world premiere of ‘The Great Gatsby’ last night.

Leonardo DiCaprio: I was swooning when Leo took to the red carpet looking sharp in a baltico-blue Prada two-button notched-lapel suit. Keeping the look classic with a white dress shirt, navy silk tie, and black lace-up shoes, all by Prada, I did wonder why he didn’t take his pants up a few inches. They are way too long but this appears to be a continual thing on the red carpet when it comes to menswear.

Tobey Maguire: The actor joined co-star Leonardo DiCaprio by also opting for a classic dark-coloured suit by Saint Laurent. His wife, Jennifer Meyer, cozied up to her hubby wearing a look from the Saint Laurent Fall 2013 collection. Her babydoll floral-embroidered dress featuring a white collar and black velvet tie translates rather nicely on the red carpet. She added the celebrity favourite Saint Laurent ‘Betty’ bag and black Alaïa embellished suede sandals to her look.

Jay Z: As the music and executive producer for ‘The Great Gatsby’, the rapper took to the red carpet to celebrate this part in the movie wearing a Tom Ford suit, not surprisingly. His two-button notched-lapel charcoal checked suit fit perfectly. Looking fresh to death, Jay added a taupe tie to his white dress shirt, completing his look with formal black shoes.

Joel Edgerton: The actor lightened things up, wearing an Ermenegildo Zegna two-button notched-lapel grey suit, styled with a white shirt and purple tie. In a sea of dark suits, this light-grey look was very refreshing; however, I have to say that Tobey is my favourite here.

'Star Trek Into Darkness' Premiere

For the German premiere of the much-anticipated ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’, held in Berlin on Monday, three of the male stars and director J.J. Abrams, along with Alice Eve and Zoe Saldana, arrived in very different looks. They showed the know how to style a suit, but only two of them nailed the fit.

Simon Pegg: The British actor went with a grey suit with notch lapels over a classic white shirt. The jacket fits well, but the pants do not. He wisely finished it all off with a burgundy slim tie and a pink silk pocket square.

Zachary Quinto: Known to be a great dresser, Zachary added to his impressive menswear résumé with a perfectly cut navy suit with shawl lapels over a pale blue shirt. The details made him stand out. Along with the suit, he added a wild-patterned black-and-white tie and a plaid pocket square. None of the colours were identical, giving him more of a statement look and less of a uniformed look.

Chris Pine: He opted for a Ralph Lauren brown checked suit with notch lapels similar to one he wore in November at ‘The Rise of the Guardians’ premiere. It was a fantastic looking suit that was incredibly eye-catching, but his pants needed to fit more like Zachary’s. The fit of the jacket is great and the addition of the wide tie (and the manly beard) gave him a more powerful look. I love the decision to wear the contrast-collar shirt as well.

J.J. Abrams: The director has very much been keeping-up-with-the-Jones’ so to speak, as his classic suits and stand-out ties have been favoured just as much as the cast of this movie.

Star Trek Into Darkness - Moscow Premiere

Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Alice Eve attended the ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Moscow premiere held at the Oktyabr Cinema Hall in Moscow, Russia yesterday evening.

Chris Pine: The actor has a knack of outdoing himself with every look. On this occasion, he looked like a Wall Street banker, wearing a slick striped grey suit. The tan Ralph Lauren shoes which he loves were swapped out for a black pair on this occasion.

Zachary Quinto: I’m obsessed with Zachary’s eggplant suit. The fit, the colour, the sheen and his constant attempts to keep menswear varied and interesting keep me hooked, especially when paired with bright-blue lace-up shoes.

Alice Eve: Sporting a braided updo, the British actress wore a Dolce & Gabbana black lace dress with floral appliqués. The look, which features a black bodysuit, was styled with a gold pendant necklace and black pumps. Her red manicure provided a pop of colour to her sexy chic look.
