Jessica Chastain In Alexander McQueen – 2012 Oscars

Jessica Chastain has been one to watch on the red carpet over the past few months.

Between the highs and the lows, Jessica has yet to define a ‘signature style’ like her ‘The Help’ co-stars, Octavia Spencer and Emma Stone.

For the 2012 Oscars, held in Hollywood this evening, Jessica went completely regal in a black strapless Alexander McQueen gown.

Her silk organza corset gown embroidered with gold bullion and metal thread was custom-made by Sarah Burton who was inspired by nature to create this look.

This is one of the most daring looks we’ve seen tonight, and I am so impressed with Jessica for taking such a risk.

Of course, she didn’t take the biggest risk of all – carrying a clutch on the carpet.

Absolutely stunning dress! And she perfectly carried it off!

  3. bee7 February 27, 2012 at 16:24 #

why does she hate clutch so much?

  4. Camille February 27, 2012 at 14:52 #

LOVE! She stood out in a good way. She looks gorgeous in this and the styling (hair, makeup, jewels) was spot on! Definitely one of my best dressed of the night.

  5. Colleen February 27, 2012 at 14:43 #

Love love love! After her (somewhat) disappointing looks during awards season, I was afraid she would let us down come Oscar night, but she proved me wrong! Perfect hair, makeup and jewelry. My favorite of the night. I wonder what her aversion to carrying a clutch is?

  6. Nat February 27, 2012 at 14:38 #

I know this is a costum gown (and a beautiful one), but there’s something about it that feels slightly deja-vu to me: black McQueen with gold details/patterns…
Also, it was definitely too tigh for her on the chest.
That said, I LOVE the hair and makeup. Overall, this is a great improvement from her previous looks.

  7. SandTony February 27, 2012 at 14:16 #

    Perfection! Her hair looks divine!

  8. Carolina Roq February 27, 2012 at 14:02 #

I don’t like the dress. But the make up and hair are flawless, she was glowing.

  9. justme February 27, 2012 at 12:43 #

I don’t like the dress unfortunately but her makeup and hair are flawless.

  10. Jess2 February 27, 2012 at 12:05 #

Oh my stars this is her best look ever!! I was nervous about what she was going to wear and she totally delivered. This look is amazing, stunning and exquisite!! Beautiful hair and makeup – one of my favourites for sure!

  11. Vicky February 27, 2012 at 11:03 #

Really like this, not my favourite but it’s in the top five for me.
I like her hairstyle, simple but elegant and the colour complements the details on the dress really well. She looks younger than before.

  12. Amy February 27, 2012 at 10:55 #

Jessica did it right. Her dress will divide opinions but it’s definitely one of the few to remember. I’m glad she chose that one ,it really suits her

  13. Kyriaki-Cyprus February 27, 2012 at 10:41 #

I slept on it and I think I can now say for sure that she was my most favourite from last night. One to remember. Such a gorgeous gown. I love the embroidered detail!

  14. roxana February 27, 2012 at 10:40 #

    i love it!

  15. mandy February 27, 2012 at 10:00 #

Nice enough. But something is missing. It doesn’t look… “extravagant” enough as how it should have.

  16. Fiona-Brasil February 27, 2012 at 09:25 #

My favorite actress, very talented and her hair is amazing!Simply stunning!

  17. hally February 27, 2012 at 06:40 #

She looks regal, and so, so beautiful. Her hair & makeup are perfect!

  18. msd February 27, 2012 at 06:26 #

Definitely one of the best on the red carpet.

  19. Aline February 27, 2012 at 06:18 #

I don’t really like the dress and YET I think she looks so incredibly STUNNING. And at the end, it doesn’t matter that I don’t like the dress, we can clearly see that she LOVES it. Everything about her shows how confident she is in it. So, yeah, definitely the best she’s ever looked. And I LOVE the hair.

  20. Viola February 27, 2012 at 06:12 #

Rude – she should have worn Armani.

  21. Katharine February 27, 2012 at 05:32 #

This is gorgeous : my favourite dress of the night. Huzzahs to Jessica for wearing it so beautifully …

  22. Stephanie February 27, 2012 at 05:30 #

Love the dress, but I feel overall there’s something missing to give it an extra ‘oomph’ of glamour. A clutch or maybe more jewelry would have done it for me.

  23. Kennedy February 27, 2012 at 05:20 #

    Best dressed contender FOR SURE!

  24. glenn February 27, 2012 at 05:11 #

she looks so beautiful in that dress, and i love his hair!

  25. Natalia February 27, 2012 at 04:20 #

finally!! dress, hair and make up perfect for her… the alexander mcqueen gown is beautiful, the detail of the drees is just amazing… if she had carried one of the beautiful mcqueen´s clutch would have been the icing on the cake!

  26. noo February 27, 2012 at 04:00 #

this is quite a beautiful look which she knocks it out of the park with the hair and make up, i even don’t care that she went hands free. but i truly expected her to wear a mcqueen so i didn’t really have an aaah moment when i saw her.

  27. Tina February 27, 2012 at 03:17 #

This look definitely needs a clutch, but the dress is unique and stands out.

  28. bm February 27, 2012 at 03:11 #

This is stunning. Probably the best dressed at tonight oscar.

  29. pipsqueak February 27, 2012 at 02:56 #

I LOVE her hair! She should let her hair down and make it somewhat loose, undone so it softens her face. This is a stunning look.

  30. Shaina February 27, 2012 at 02:50 #

BEAUTIFUL! Photos do Jessica no justice, when I was watching it live, I almost died.

  31. Jones19 February 27, 2012 at 02:47 #

The best I’ve EVER seen her look. Stunning. One of the best dressed of the night.

    • dee February 27, 2012 at 18:29 #

      I agree. She looks stunning.

  32. robbie February 27, 2012 at 02:45 #

i felt the bust was too high up, i wish it was just a little bit lower. quit possibly the best dress at the event, i just wish someone like cate blanchett wore it.

    • Michelle February 28, 2012 at 14:33 #

Where the heck is Cate Blanchett anyways? I always feel like the red carpets are missing someone when she isn’t there .. and yes, she would have looked great in this. I think the only thing this look was missing was a chunkier black bangle in place of the 2 thin gold ones she was wearing.

  33. Mahima February 27, 2012 at 02:44 #

    My favourite by far.

  34. DivaDebbi (Beauty and Fashion Blog) February 27, 2012 at 02:42 #

I thought it looked overwrought. Pretty hair and makeup.

  35. Jeremy February 27, 2012 at 02:42 #

I haven’t seen Alexander McQueen on Oscar for a very long time (the last time was that Nazi-maid dress of Gwyneth Paltrow) So kudos for Jessica for giving some edge for everyone tonight.

  36. Hermione Weasley February 27, 2012 at 02:37 #

She really looks incredible. I love the dress and the hair is a-m-a-z-i-n-g.

  37. Hannah February 27, 2012 at 02:33 #

I absolutely lvoe this. I stil lfeel like, morally, she should have worn Armani, but looks stunnign none the less. I wish sh ehad worn a gold, even a black clutch, it would have balanced the look out perfectly, but she still looks great.

  38. nicole February 27, 2012 at 02:31 #

not a big fan don’t think it flatters her figure at all

  39. Sabina February 27, 2012 at 02:30 #

One of the best tonight, she’s never looked better on the red carpet!

  40. Luiza February 27, 2012 at 02:28 #

  41. Raquel February 27, 2012 at 02:27 #

I’m torn. I don’t like the dress, but I understand what you say about daring. Love her makeup.

  42. Mol February 27, 2012 at 02:26 #

Finally, a color, texture and fit that makes her skin, hair and figure leap out at you – yay!

  43. CreoleLady February 27, 2012 at 02:26 #

Superb. Even her hair looks more vibrant. The corset-effect does wonders for her figure. Lol about the clutch or, to be more accurate, the lack thereof.

  44. Ariel February 27, 2012 at 02:26 #

Omg! I love it! Finally someone went big! She looks like a queen!

  45. Elle February 27, 2012 at 02:25 #

The colors complement her well! She has such a pleasant face. I think the hair down is a bit messier than expected, but she is gorgeous.

  46. mm February 27, 2012 at 02:24 #

I love this so much especially the hair. She really went for it and it paid off.

  47. EmmaWoodhouse February 27, 2012 at 02:23 #

AT LAST!!!!!!!!!!! Clutch or no clutch, Jessica has never looked better. This was one of my absolute favorites of the night–and I’m pretty sure I’ll remember it for my BDOTY list! She has FOUND HER STYLE! I love this look from head to toe–perfect hair, perfect dress, perfect poise!

  48. molly February 27, 2012 at 02:22 #

What a beautiful gown. My only problem is how flat the shirt falls. I think that it should have more volume. Other than that, she got it right. Her hair and makeup are flawless.

    • molly February 27, 2012 at 02:23 #

      Not shirt, skirt.

  49. Chanel February 27, 2012 at 02:21 #

Her hair and make-up are flawless. Wow.

  50. Ramsay February 27, 2012 at 02:21 #

This is exquisite – I like a lot! Well done for turning down those green Armani mermaid gowns – Sarah Burton’s hands are like magic – Superb!
