Saint Laurent Presents ‘Belle de Jour’

Fashion Blogger Fashion Critic features Saint Laurent Presents 'Belle de Jour'Saint Laurent Presents 'Belle de Jour'

Saint Laurent celebrated the 50th anniversary of the film ‘Belle de Jour’ with a screening hosted by creative director Anthony Vaccarello and Catherine Deneuve at The Museum of Modern Art in New York City on Wednesday (December 19), with Chloë Sevigny and Leigh Lezark in attendance.

The evening commemorated the historic ties between the Yves Saint Laurent Maison and the film, and honoured the present relationship between Catherine Deneuve and Anthony Vaccarello.

Catherine Deneuve: We’ve associated Catherine with another French brand for so long, that I’m intrigued to see how the new fashion union plays out in the future. From the jump, I’m very impressed by this sleek menswear inspired look featuring the signature embellished lapels. As we all know Saint Laurent heavily focuses on minis, so I’m assuming suiting and custom looks will make up the majority of Catherine’s red carpet looks going forward.

Chloë Sevigny: The actress was rocking a style that exudes Saint Laurent’s Parisian sensuality, while channeling her own.

Leigh Lezark: As far as suiting goes, this felt a bit bare. It’s missing a bit of M&S. Magic and sparkle.

Front Row @ Louis Vuitton Spring 2019

Front Row @ Louis Vuitton Spring 2019

At the Louis Vuitton Spring 2019 show on Tuesday (October 2) during Paris Fashion Week, there were almost too many LV lovelies to count — and a few good men, too.

Cate Blanchett: The hero piece of Cate’s look was clearly the statement jacket that was a glitzy constellation of embellishment — and signature LV logo-lined cuffs — to jazz up the sophistication of the moody-dark ensemble.

Alicia Vikander: As per usual, the actress effortlessly customized an LV look to her chic standards; this one bringing in boho flair with its mix of patterns, autumnal hues, and the floral tapestry coat about her shoulders. Some would say the cross-body purse was a bit big, but she made it fit right in.

Thandie Newton: The allure of this lacy dress was balanced with the tailored jacket on top. And, can we just talk about Thandie’s gorgeous hair.

Kering x Cannes Dinner Red Carpet Roundup

Black appeared to be the favourite colour of the evening at the Kering x Cannes dinner during the 2018 Cannes Film Festival on Sunday (May 13). Celebrities joined Cate BlanchettChloë Sevigny and Kristen Stewart.

Salma Hayek Pinault: She didn’t get the black memo. Instead, she had a captivating moment in custom Gucci. It has a whimsical feel with the lace accents and accessories, but it still has an alluring finish. It would have been just as magical without the necklace.

Li Yuchun: Another one who plays by her own rule book, the singer demonstrated her sartorial skills in Gucci. The cognac trousers were a departure from her typical tailored black, but they offered a fresh take against the prim jacket and collared shirt.

An Evening Honoring Louis Vuitton and Nicolas Ghesquière

‘An Evening Honoring’… an annual fundraising event for the Lincoln Center Corporate Fund, paid tribute to Louis Vuitton Artistic Director Nicolas Ghesquière with ‘The Women’s Leadership Award’ on Thursday (November 30) in New York City.

The award was presented by Jennifer Connelly, to celebrate his many years of excellence in the fashion industry.

As you’d expect, the same list of ladies, and gents, who’ve shown their support for recent LV events were in attendance, plus Nicole Kidman.

Ruth Negga: Of the winged trio here, Ruth is the most successful at pulling off this Louis Vuitton Spring 2018 look. Dreamy in parts with a sheer and leather overlay giving the look an edge, there really is nothing she can’t pull off.

Michelle Williams: The actress perhaps went with the most safest interpretation of this Spring 2018 look, and I have a feeling many will consider this a tad washed out and too one note. I think that she looks really pretty, and to be honest, I’m glad she played it safe. Complicated LV styles overwhelm her in my opinion.

Jennifer Connelly: While I will tip my hat and have huge admiration for Jennifer for going with probably the trickiest look in the Louis Vuitton Spring 2018 collection, my feeling is she has bitten off a little more than she could chew here. There’s way too much going on, and it doesn’t feel as cohesive as the other two ladies.

Front Row @ Louis Vuitton Spring 2018

Many of the same stars who were at the opening of the Louis Vuitton boutique were seated front row at the Louis Vuitton Spring 2018 show the next day on Tuesday (October 3) during Paris Fashion Week. So, you will be excused if you’re already experiencing a certain kind of déjà vu.

Here, the lineup of the LV looks—take two—from the brand’s biggest fans.

Cate Blanchett: I had a slightly easier time embracing this directional look from Cate, as opposed to her more disjointed offering the day before. Perhaps some elements still seemed a bit forced, but no one can say this wasn’t a mullet-esque look—warrior-chic on the top, and business on the bottom.

Julianne Moore: Stepping away from the colour black, the actress was radiant in this rich, jade-green dress that had its own party happening at the back with the long fringe detail.

Alicia Vikander: Yet again, Alicia’s effortlessly chic look took top billing. In this case, it was her accessories—the handbag and booties, in particular—that really elevated this all-black ensemble.

Maison Louis Vuitton Vendôme Opening

Paris Fashion Week also ushered in the grand opening of the Maison Louis Vuitton at Place Vendôme in Paris, France on Monday (October 2), with a number of the brand’s biggest fans in attendance—and all donning signature LV looks.

Cate Blanchett: As hard as I tried, I just couldn’t get on board with what Cate was serving up here. Between the silken, emerald green jacket and leather belt, the pinstripe blouse and its exaggerated cuffs, and the racing stripe track pants, it looked like she had borrowed pieces from three different looks that should have never been in the same room together.

Julianne Moore: With a look that was as close as Julianne could get to her favoured LBDs, she brought an elegance to this distressed lace dress that was reinforced by her simple approach to styling with a complementary clutch and sandals.

Alicia Vikander: I know that some question the Alicia and LV pairing, but she just wears the looks so effortlessly—even this rebellious combination between a striped top and leopard skirt, topped off with combat boots, had an undeniable cool-girl vibe.

2017 Met Gala Red Carpet Roundup

Many more stars were at the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1) in New York City.

Hailee Steinfeld: I love the deconstructed kimono edge of this Vera Wang design that was both playful and progressive. Hailee’s twisted top knot and winged eye liner likewise sold the look to me.

Dasha Zhukova
: Dasha softly echoed the theme with this red floral Proenza Schouler keyhole gown.

Olivia Cooke: Also wearing the colour of the night, Olivia donned a seductive red Burberry gown with boudoir lace that got creative in its asymmetry.
