Charlize Theron Takes the Unexpected Route at amfAR Dallas
Charlize Theron was honoured with the Award of Inspiration at amfAR Dallas 2026 this weekend.
When I think of amfAR, my mind immediately goes to the annual Cannes gala, where gorgeous gowns were once the order of the day, particularly during the event’s heyday. But Charlize wasn’t subscribing to that dress code, and frankly, I’m glad.
Some of my favourite fashion moments from the South African actress have come courtesy of Sarah Burton, both at Givenchy and during her time at Alexander McQueen. As long as there are no leather sleeves involved, I’m usually on board.
This Givenchy by Sarah Burton Spring 2027 look, comprising a black knitted sliced vest and black wool trousers with dramatic red-trimmed panels, reminded me of the exaggerated trouser silhouettes we’ve recently seen on Céline Dion. There’s a similar play on volume and proportion, although Charlize’s look has a much sportier feel.
Yes, there’s an element of parachute pants here, while the silver powder-puff jewellery belt could almost pass for the release mechanism. But between her confidence, the swept-back hairstyle and the makeup, Charlize sells every inch of this look.
Her press tour for The Odyssey was a little inconsistent, but it did deliver some highlights, including Tom Ford in Paris, Louis Vuitton in China, and Celine in Korea. This look deserves a place alongside those favourites and might even rank above a few of them.
