Catherine, Princess of Wales Wore Patrick McDowell To The Order of the Garter Service
Catherine, Princess of Wales, and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, attended the Order of the Garter Service at Windsor Castle today. The annual ceremony celebrates Britain’s oldest and most prestigious order of chivalry, with members personally appointed by the monarch in recognition of public service and contributions to national life.

The Princess of Wales wore a coat dress by London-based designer Patrick McDowell. The textile was specially woven for Catherine by Stephen Walters & Sons in Suffolk. It is beautiful, with its understated pattern, while her coordinating Jane Taylor hat was trimmed using the same fabric.
At first glance, the silhouette feels familiar, but the pocket detailing gives the coat dress a little extra interest. Rather than sitting flat against the body, the pockets subtly shape the skirt, creating a fuller line through the hips.

The only element I’m not entirely sold on is the choice of accessories. The suede pumps and matching clutch feel slightly disconnected from the rest of the look. With the coat dress, hat and jewellery all feeling considered and coordinated, the accessories don’t quite have the same harmony. A smoother leather finish would have been preferable.
Robinson Pelham earrings completed the look.
