Rihanna’s Embellished Maison Margiela Artisanal Look At The Met Gala
Rihanna, who is arguably the most consistent presence at the Met Gala, attended the annual event this evening with a look that fully embraced the “Costume Art” theme.

Dressed in custom Maison Margiela Artisanal, the draped column silhouette draws from the medieval architecture of Flanders, along with its atmospheric quality. The constructed drape reflects the visual language of Flemish primitive painting, linking the look to the House’s 2025 exploration of historical references through form and surface.
Continuing the House’s experimentation with unexpected materials, the gown is crafted from duchesse woven with fine metal recycled threads typically used in computer wiring, then sculpted entirely by hand. It frames a corseted bodice richly embellished with over 115,000 crystal beads, antique jewels, and intricate chains. Each element was meticulously hand-sewn, with the embroidery alone requiring 1,380 hours.
In the context of the evening, this reads as a clear interpretation of fashion as artwork. The structure, surface, and materiality come together to create a piece that feels considered from every angle, rather than relying on a single statement detail. While distinct from the runway’s cocooned look, it builds on the same language of sculptural drape and architectural volume, translating those ideas into something more elevated for this red carpet.
The look is completed with an Art Deco–inspired headpiece, fashioned from gold wire set with crystals. Glenn Spiro Old Mine pear-shaped diamond earrings, a Suzanne Belperron 1930s ring, and Briony Raymond ear cuffs completed her look.
