Following her understated Jean Paul Gaultier black dress for the NAACP Image Awards, Tyla was back in her Y2K bag, stepping out in a look from the designer’s Spring 1999 collection.

The off-the-shoulder colour-blocked black, yellow, and red top, which gives the look a vibrant, unmistakably late-90s energy, is actually part of a bikini set. I can easily imagine her wearing the full runway version for a performance, but for the streets of Paris she gave the piece a signature Gaultier utilitarian twist, pairing it with capris complete with lace-up side detailing and a slightly deconstructed feel.

Tyla clearly loves a choker, and the rest of her look featured Gucci’s Borsetto Boston bag in dark brown suede with Web and Horsebit details, plus green strappy heels and stacked anklets inject a playful dose of glamour, emphasising the singer’s signature mix of high fashion and carefree styling.

What makes Tyla’s approach to archival fashion particularly compelling is how effortless it always feels. She doesn’t treat these historic pieces like museum artefacts; instead, she integrates them into her red carpet and street style with confidence and ease.

I love how she continues to make the archives feel fresh again.
