Cape With Conviction

After Jessie Buckley’s Maison Margiela Artisanal look from last week’s The Bride! London premiere, adjusting back to her awards season style was always going to be a challenge, as we have established that she operates in two distinct modes. But I have to say, I’m not opposed to this Balenciaga look. The white cape would have benefited from more sculpted structure or fuller volume, yet the overall effect still reads leading lady. Jessica McCormack jewellery completed her look.

Gloves Gone Wrong

Sarah Catherine Hook’s Balenciaga purple gown is stunning, but you won’t be surprised to learn that I feel the gloves derail the look. It is the colour in particular that throws everything off.

Unexpected Over Obvious

One thing I have appreciated about Yerin Ha’s Bridgerton press tour is that she has not leaned into the obvious princess trope aside from the world premiere, and she kept that same approach in this Balenciaga Spring 2026 look. Some might argue that it does not feel ceremonial enough for the event, but I admire that she resisted the predictable route.

Redemption Through The Original

After Rihanna wore a custom version of this pale pink Balenciaga Spring 2026 dress to the 2025 Gotham Awards and it was widely criticised, you would think no one else would go near it. But the runway version was always superior, and Sarah Pidgeon proves exactly that here. The softer volume make all the difference.

Pretty, But Not Persuasive

I was surprised to learn that Michelle Randolph’s Balenciaga gown was custom, because I am not sold on the fit. The colour is beautiful, yet the silhouette does not flatter her as well as it could.
