Michelle Yeoh Wore Self-Portrait To The ‘Wicked: For Good’ London Premiere

When I saw the pictures of Michelle Yeoh last night at the Wicked: For Good London premiere, I couldn’t place the look immediately.

My first instinct was that it had to be archival — an original Pierre Balmain, a Cristóbal Balenciaga couture salon piece, or a Dior atelier relic. It carried that sense of historic couture: sculpted bodice work, velvet that holds shape without appearing heavy, lace that feels touched by time rather than trend.

So I was genuinely delighted to learn that this gown was a custom creation by Han Chong of Self-Portrait. There’s something deeply poetic about Michelle supporting a fellow Malaysian designer at such a grand European premiere. It goes beyond design — it’s cultural alignment, pride, and understanding of legacy.

And that studio image of the gown? It could absolutely sit in a case at the V&A or The Met’s Costume Institute. It has that curated, reverent quality. Of course, she styled it with her Richard Mille watch and Mikimoto jewels — her signatures that keep the glamour deeply personal.

Stylist: Dena Neustadter Giannini.
