Taraji P. Henson attended the EBONY Power 100 Gala at The Beverly Hilton on Tuesday, where she was a guest presenter.

She chose a Sebastian Gunawan Couture creation that blends a tuxedo with the glamour of eveningwear. The white structured bib gives that crisp, formal sharpness, while the beaded tulle bodice adds sensuality and texture. Then we get the dramatic sculpted hip detail, shaped almost like a tulip skirt, before falling into a sleek, floor-length silhouette.

This is not a look that sits quietly. And yes— I know some of you are side-eyeing this already and drafting a polite “respectfully, no.” But taste is also about personality, and Taraji has always leaned into fashion that has character, humour, and presence. If someone like Taraji doesn’t wear this, who should?

My only quibble is the hairstyle. The swoop in the face doesn’t quite land for me, as I think something sleeker would have worked better. But even with that note, she’s still selling the story: theatrical glamour meets tuxedo edge.

A risk, yes—but a committed one.
