Celebrities at the 2025 New York Film Festival
Here is a roundup from the New York Film Festival premieres which took place last night, and there was one colour that dominated across the carpets: black. It wasn’t about blending in—each actress managed to make the shade feel personal, from romantic bows to leather edge and boudoir lace.

Blue Moon Premiere
Rose Byrne wore a Carolina Herrera Pre-Fall 2025 black one-shoulder column gown punctuated by a sculptural bow. Carolina Herrera knows how to do pared-back glamour with a twist, and Rose delivered exactly that. The only element that felt off was the styling—her choker clashed with the neckline, each fighting for attention rather than working in harmony. Still, the silhouette was clean and sophisticated.

A House of Dynamite Premiere
Greta Lee has been code-switching her style for each stop of her three press runs, and for her third outing she went back to minimalist in The Row. The black dress – her fourth Spring 2026 look in a row – looked understated head-on, but the drama was in the details, especially the beautifully draped back. Unfortunately, front-facing photos didn’t capture that nuance, which is a shame. Styled with Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany & Co. diamonds, the look was a study in quiet luxury—pared back yet undeniably expensive.

Rebecca Ferguson, meanwhile, turned up in a strapless black leather Simkhai dress that felt perfectly in line with her red carpet DNA. Leather on a red carpet can often feel forced, but Rebecca’s no-fuss styling and confident presence made it read as sleek, moody, and just a touch subversive. If Rose gave us elegance and Greta gave us minimalism, Rebecca gave us “quiet goth” energy.

Jay Kelly Premiere
Laura Dern wore a custom Gabriela Hearst cut-out lace dress. I’m glad she added the cape — without it, the look might have veered too boudoir, but with it, the drama arrived in full force. Hearst’s signature black swirl Chorley tights and Edwina snakeskin pumps completed the ensemble, giving Laura that unmistakable, intellectual kind of glamour that suits her perfectly.

Riley Keough rounded things off in a Chanel Resort 2026 high-low dress. My honest first thought? I hope she’s first in line when Matthieu Blazy’s Chanel debuts hit the runway. I miss the spark we know she’s capable of. It’s been a while since her Chanel choices felt exciting, and I’m rooting for her to get her groove back.
