Catherine Zeta-Jones’ ‘Wednesday’ Glam: Gothic Meets Gleam

For the Wednesday Season 2 premiere, celebrity makeup artist Brett Freedman gave Catherine Zeta-Jones a look that was as graceful—and sharp—as a guillotine. With the whole cast leaning into darker, edgier vibes, Brett’s glam was a masterclass in glow with a gothic twist.

Body

To highlight Catherine’s skin, which was very much on display, Brett used Farmhouse Fresh’s Whoopie Cream body cream layered with their Golden Gleam serum. “I wanted to amp up the light-catching shine without going too slick or bronzed,” Brett explained. While Golden Gleam is technically skincare, it doubles as an incredible luminiser for both face and body.

Skin Prep

Keeping things simple but ultra-hydrating, Brett applied Farmhouse Fresh’s Cactus Comfort moisturiser. “CZJ doesn’t have sensitive skin, but I always like to keep the prep straightforward,” he said.

Base

He then used Aleph’s Foundation/Concealer in shade 2.0. This triple-duty formula acts as a base, concealer and spot corrector, offering a weightless, skin-perfecting finish.

Setting Powder

To set the base, Brett opted for MAC Blot Powder. “It has nearly zero pigment, so it doesn’t add any extra layers—just zaps shine,” he said.

Lips

Farmhouse Fresh’s Sweet Cactus Pear Lip Drench was smoothed on at the start of glam for a plumped, hydrated pout. He used MAC Lip Pencil in Vino to line the lips, leaving the centre bare, then tapped Gucci’s creamy Linda Beige lipstick in the middle for a soft, blurred effect.

Cheeks

The glow continued with Giorgio Armani’s Luminous Silk Cheek Tint in #42—Brett’s “secret to that subtle glass skin veneer.”

Eyes

He built up the eyes using the Makeup by Mario Master Mattes palette, blending from black at the lash line to vanilla at the brow bone. “I love the dense yet blendable pigments and the neutral range,” he said. For extra dimension, he added Victoria Beckham’s Satin Kajal Liner in Bronze along the lash line for a bit of glisten and glide.

Lashes

Upper lashes were Ardell Naked Lash #421—trimmed at the outer corners for subtle lift. For the lower lashes, he applied Ardell Naked Clusters for a spiked, graphic edge. Brett curled lashes before and after mascara, then again once faux lashes were in place for a lifted finish. Lancôme Hypnôse Waterproof—straight from Catherine’s own purse—was the finishing touch.

Brows

Brett used his own Brett Brow Duo-Shade Pencil in Dark Brunette, topped with Brett Brow’s Arch-Control Gel for hold and polish.

The final result? A look that was polished, gleaming and perfectly in tune with Wednesday’s moody mystique.
