The Celebrity-Approved It Bags You’ll Be Seeing Everywhere This Summer

It feels like we’re right back in the golden age of the It bag. That time when the right arm candy said everything, and certain styles were impossible to get your hands on no matter how long the waitlist. Fast forward to 2025, and the girls (and guys) are once again fully invested. This summer has seen a wave of major contenders all making a strong case for icon status. Some are comebacks. Others are fresh from the runway. But the energy is the same.

Let’s start with a modern classic—the Gucci GG Marmont shoulder bag. This Alessandro Michele-era creation first appeared in 2016 and hasn’t left the conversation since. It’s one of those rare bags that doesn’t scream for attention but quietly proves its versatility time and again. Whether you wear it crossbody, over the shoulder, or tucked under your arm, it always works. There are endless colourways and sizes, but Kirsten Dunst’s pale blue version paired with a Gucci short set, horsebit loafers, and shades is a summer highlight.

Then there’s the Saint Laurent Baby Icare. The original Icare bag became a phenomenon not long after its 2022 launch thanks to its oversized elegance and that antique gold monogram that sealed the deal. While Hailey Bieber made the maxi version go viral, Zoe Kravitz and Charli XCX have both been spotted this month carrying the soon-to-be-released Baby Icare. Smaller, sleeker, and likely just as sought-after—it’s due to drop later this summer, and I’m predicting a waiting list longer than a Soho House application.

Next up, a true Y2K revival: the Fendi Spy Bag. First released in 2005, this slouchy, woven-handled icon was the bag of its era, spotted on everyone from Lindsay Lohan to the Olsen twins. Its return at Wimbledon, via Bel Powley and Poppy Delevingne, has sparked a new wave of interest.

With intricate leatherwork, secret compartments, and a nostalgic silhouette, the Spy bag has the potential to become the comeback story of the season. Ryan Destiny and Ju Xiaowen have also co-signed the reboot.

And speaking of rebirth, Alessandro Michele’s Valentino era has already produced not one but two major bag moments.

The first is the Valentino Garavani Panthea bag. Seen on Anne Hathaway (on the set of The Devil Wears Prada 2), Tyla, and Iris Law, it’s all about structure and quiet luxury. The Panthea is sophisticated but not stuffy, polished but not cold. If you like your accessories with a bit more intention and a lot less trend-chasing, this is one to keep your eye on. It lands in stores this September.

And finally, the wilder cousin—the Valentino Garavani Nellcôte. Inspired by Villa Nellcôte, a notorious rock’n’roll playground, this bag brings a little rebellion to the mix. Grommet detailing gives it that toughened-up edge, and while it’s not my personal top pick, I can’t deny its star power.

Rosalía’s already wearing it. Colman Domingo and Sha’Carri Richardson too.

And Anne Hathaway’s fringe version practically begs for a festival moment.

So—what’s your favourite? Whether you’re into subtle icons or statement shapes, there’s something on this list for everyone. And with all the celebrity endorsements and launch buzz, it’s safe to say: the era of the It bag is well and truly back.
