Katy Perry Wore Mélique Street & Sportmax For The American Idol Finale

If you’re like me, your first reaction to seeing this image of Katy Perry was, “why is she posing next to a dumpster?”

Then I saw the caption which read, “?MEGA RED ALERT?
TONIGHT’S #AMERICANIDOL FINALE IS NOT A DUMPSTER FIRE! YOUR FAVS ARE NOT SAFE! VOTE ONLINE, VIA TEXT, OR ON THE APP.”

Now it makes sense.  Somewhat ? .

Style wise, Katy has turned the dial up several notches during the last few weeks, and ended on a major high wearing a look from the Italian label, Mélique Street.

Known for her bold style choices that don’t always pay off, this sequined jumpsuit and red asymmetrical coat delivered on all fronts as there’s something distinctly theatrical about it, which is when Katy is at her very best.

I’ll admit I was slightly bothered about the uneven bold shoulders, as I thought it was a styling error, but upon looking through the designer’s portfolio, this is a theme that runs throughout the recent collection.

I know ya’ll are not fans of PVC pumps, but on this occasion the work as they fade into the background to heighten the spotlight on this outfit.

Taking off her judges’ hat for a moment, Katy also took the stage as a performer to kick off the show, singing ‘Thinking of You’ as a debut with Hunter Metts who was a contestant on the series.

I was less enthused about this second look from Sportmax’s Fall 2021 collection.

It looks really cool on the runway with the sleeves, but loses pretty much all that was going for it on Katy and becomes a basic strapless sequin dress with black trousers. 

If this look was a sounds, it would be that last gust of air deflating a birthday balloon.

But on the plus side, she at least bothered to hem the trousers.
