Monica Rocks Balenciaga’s Happy News Print For The ‘Gram

I’m sure you’ve seen the January 2021 memes where people are already over this year 8 days in, but Monica is here to spread some Happy News with her latest look which she posted to Instagram.

The singer has always been a high fashion girl.  I first noticed this when she was very much a McQueen queen, falling in love with Lee McQueen’s Plato’s Atlantis collection which she wore to the 2012 BET Awards. 

And for the music video ‘Everything to Me,’ she wore two Alexander McQueen bold print looks.

What I love about her style is that it feels very natural; like she’s in her element, rather than wearing labels for labels sake like Dorit from the ‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ for example.

On this occasion she was wearing a full Balenciaga look – minus the Gucci GG logo shades.

The Balenciaga ‘Knife Shark’ boots have been a staple for the brand, but the ‘Happy News’ shirt and ‘Happy News’ puffer jacket both hail from the Resort 2021 collection.

I’m sure many of you are feeling that news print in fashion is hardly new because in 1983 Moschino presented a newspaper print suit and dress, which have since been recreated by current designer Jeremy Scott for his Moschino Spring 2014 collection.

In the early ’00s, John Galliano’s graphic newspaper print for Dior’s Fall 2000 collection was propelled in the spotlight via Carrie Bradshaw in that cowl neck slip dress during season 3 of ‘Sex and the City’, which was worn again in ‘Sex and the City 2.’

Even fast fashion online retailer PrettyLittleThing have their own Newspaper print oversized shirt.

Yet, I’m still swooning at how cool Monica looks in this outfit.

It’s just the way she wears it.  The look neither feels dated, or done-to-death in this setting.
