2018 Golden Globe Awards Menswear Roundup

Posted by Rachel Watkins

The all-black dress code was something more applicable to the women at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday (January 7) in Beverly Hills, California. But, the menswear also followed in similar form with a countless number of classic black tuxes in the mix—many accessorised by the ‘Times Up’ pin.

Dave Franco: I don’t think Dave could have looked more fine in his Saint Laurent tuxedo that was given an elevated flair with the embellished lapels that glinted ever so slightly in the light. And, can we just talk about his enviable brow line.

Sterling K. Brown: The actor, who won the Golden Globe for his work in ‘This Is Us’ was sharply turned out in an Isaia velvet tuxedo jacket styled with Christian Louboutin patent loafers and Chopard accessories. If I were to nitpick, the trousers could have done with a bit of tailoring to the length.

Timothée Chalamet: The ‘Call Me By Your Name’ actor and nominee took a handsome, all-black approach in his Berluti slim-line suit.

Norman Reedus: Methinks it was partly Norman’s hairstyle and partly the tailoring of this Prada all-black suit that created a sort of unkempt aesthetic.

Noah Schnapp: I always look forward to seeing the ‘Stranger Things’ cast on the red carpet, and Noah was so preciously dashing in his Balmain double-breasted suit styled with a Brackish bow tie, an Elizabetta Boutique scarf, and Jésù-Ségun London slipper loafers. Those actors three times the 13-year-old’s age could obviously take cues from the up-and-comer’s fetching style.

Ansel Elgort: This Prada all-black look offered a suave, crisp attitude that was perfect for the ‘Baby Driver’ actor and nominee.

Edgar Ramirez: There was something about the fit of this Bottega Veneta Fall 2017 tux, specifically in the boxy nature of the jacket, that didn’t flatter as much as it could have.

Finn Wolfhard: The young actor kept it traditional in a Saint Laurent suit and tie.

Nick Jonas: Nick always seems to serve up his well-fitted looks with a side of supreme polish, as with this Versace tuxedo that was quite fetching on him.

Matt Smith: The British actor likewise took a British style approach in his classic Burberry double-breasted suit and skinny bow tie.

Caleb McLaughlin:
The ‘Stranger Things’ cast is a well-dressed one, and Caleb added to the fine mix with the sleekness of this shawl-collar suit, whereby the turtleneck and embellished pin were the statement pairings rather than the standard bow tie.

Jude Law: Opting for a slightly lighter charcoal rendition of a suit, the actor donned a stylish Saint Laurent design accented by a contrasting black satin lapel.

Garrett Hedlund: The actor kept it simple and straightforward in an all-black Salvatore Ferragamo ensemble.

Common: Always wearing his looks with such a flair for style, Common cut a formal-cool profile in his impossibly sleek Armani tuxedo accented by a dragonfly pin.

Alexander Skarsgard: The ‘Big Little Lies’ actor and Golden Globe winner dressed in a Hugo Boss double-breasted tux, with his bold, gold Bulgari watch ironically foreshadowing his golden trophy that would come later in the evening.

Milo Ventimiglia: The ‘This Is Us’ actor’s Ermenegildo Zegna Couture tuxe was sharp, snappy, and sophisticated with its satin collar and tonal flower pin.

Daniel Kaluuya: The ‘Get Out’ actor and nominee wore a Gucci shawl-collar suit

Justin Timberlake:
Justin looked rather dignified in his Dior Homme all-black ensemble, even with his buzz cut and heavier beard.

Ah, yes, the men in silence. Silence does not become them, Stranger Things young men excepted due to age.

Nick and Milo are stand-outs for me. Any love for Sebastian Stan in Hugo Boss?

He look was as good or/and as bad as every other man there – the same 🙂

I think this event – other than the hot issue – should highlight hopefully at least to some people just how boring menswear is.

Men – whether the ones featured in this post or in general – have always been dressed this way and will be for the foreseeable future.

Maybe it would be the opposite of what the cause is fighting for in a way but I really want to see at least one event where the men decide – or are made – to wear skimpy outfits while the women are all covered up. Wouldn’t that do more to highlight the sexualisation of women?

Even at this event the women while all in black had much more diverse range of outfits wile the men wear as they always were in conservative formalwear. I want to see them in sheer shirts / plunging necklines / tight pants posing their backsides to the cameramen or their partners hands on their butt!

Whenever men dare to go out of the expected Western wardrobe or intend to break from the ‘appropriate to the circumstances’ they are harshly criticized here.

It comes as no surprise to me that the kids take this round. Noah’s ensemble drew my eye instantly. Noah, Caleb, and Dave Franco for the win.

timothee chalamet is wearing a BERLUTI KEITH AUSTIN LEATHER BOOTS, so he’s basically dressed by haider ackermann in all berluti.

Noah and Caleb are absolutely adorable! The whole cast is though though.

See, I know everyone loves the Stranger Things cast, but I think each and everyone of them is absolute CRINGE.

The Stranger things kids look so good it hurts. Love Noah’s attire.

      Agree! They are so adorable!

My top choice would be Noah Schnapp!! He infused so much confidence in such young age, pulling off an intricate look with such aplomb, good job boy!! Of course Timothee Chalamet and Alexander Skarsgard will always in my hunky crush list cause these two totally hit the right spot between handsome looks and impeccable talents, SLAY Kings SLAY!!

    They all look nice

    Dave Franco.

Noah, wow, so much confidence. Not without some issues (the jacket seems tiny bit small and too much shirt cuff showing, and the size of the bow-tie), but yeah, well-done, a lot of flair, loving the addition of the scarf.
Timothee and Caleb seem to be trying to make boots happening, I’d give points to Caleb though – his sleek turtleneck plays off the boots better than Timothee’s standard bow-tie.
Nick and Ansel did nicely, but pretty much as everyone else generic.

Caleb and Noah are so well put together I’m jealous. I also like Dave in Saint Laurent and Timothée and his boots.

My favorites were the ‘Stranger’s Things’ guys
