Cannes Film Festival Day 7 Red Carpet Roundup

Day 7 of the Cannes Film Festival brought with it some stunning entrances as part of the 70th anniversary celebration. Here are more looks that took to the red carpet on Tuesday (May 23)

Irina Shayk: The model wasn’t at the 70th screening but she was at the ‘Hikari (Radiance)’ premiere, where it would seem to have taken the title of the film into account in her lemon-bright Atelier Versace custom gown styled with Lorraine Schwartz canary yellow diamonds to match. The dress was not only sheer Versace with its ruched, slit seductiveness, it was also sheer through and through although its lemony hue somewhat distracted from the see-through effect.

Bianca Balti: For the 70th anniversary screening, Bianca opted for a Dolce and Gabbana Alta Moda embroidered gown styled with DeGrisogono statement earrings. With a faint kimono-esque style, the dress held a sense of restrained elegance—although I did find the embellished heels to be unnecessary to complete the picture.

Guan Xiaotong: One word came to mind when I saw this Zuhair Murad Spring 2016 Couture confection, and that word was ‘pretty.’ The fantasy of embroidery amid the pastel colour palette and the high-low silhouette was truly a sweetly appealing look for the young starlet, with contrasting Chopard jewels adding a bold finish to its charms.

Shu Qi: The lemony colour came out to play again in this Alexis Mabille Spring 2017 gown, but I couldn’t make lemonade out of the strained construction and puffy fit of this design.

Ashley Benson: This was a lot of dress for the petite Ashley, as the floral-print Erdem ball gown somewhat swallowed her from the waist down. If nothing else, a sleeker updo would have been preferred. Messika jewels rounded out the look.

Isabelle Huppert: I was thrilled to see Isabelle cut the sophisticated yet spirited profile she does best in this custom Louis Vuitton gown that featured a glamorous array of embellishment against the beautiful hue of the light-blue skirt. Chopard jewels completed the look.

Carole Bouquet: Opting for a short look, Carole went to the Chanel Fall 2016 Couture collection for inspiration. The fit around the shoulders and bust was a bit bothersome, but it was the head-scratching clash between the green clutch and the teal pumps that caught my eye first.

Laetitia Casta: Riffing on gothic glamour, Laetitia did follow the girls-or-gams rule by highlighting her cleavage and lining the skirt of this Christian Dior Couture gown. But, I still cannot say that the sheer, shirred effect caught my fancy.

Liu Wen: Looking more glamorous than some of the gown-clad girls, Liu exuded a languid-luxe mood in this crystallized Jean Paul Gaultier jumpsuit and matching jacket. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I was instantly drawn to the effortlessly chic way she wore this look with Chopard jewels.

Barbara Palvin: The embellishment was a work of art in this Armani Privé Fall 2016 Couture gown, but the fit of the bust and the long dip of the plunge threw me off.
