2015 Grammy Awards Men Red Carpet Roundup
A handful of gents made waves at the 2015 Grammy Awards on Sunday (February 8) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, where their looks carried some eclectic personality, yet still fell in a rather safe camp for such a night.
Kanye West: Striking a tough, hands-in-pockets pose, the rapper and nominee accentuated the aloof attitude in a Balmain Homme suit, worn shirtless with a slight slouch to the pants. It all made sense until I saw the weathered pair of black cowboy boots, which was the unexpected, rebel twist. Yay or nay to the boots?
Jay Z: The music mogul was dressed to impress in a Burberry modern-fit English-woven wool and mohair tuxedo in an inky blue hue with a black silk contrast shawl collar. He couldn’t have looked sharper if he tried.
Common: Taking a monochromatic, all-black approach, the rapper and multiple nominee wore a well-tailored Givenchy suit that he pulled off handsomely enough to not appear too one-note.
LL Cool J: The host of the evening attended alongside wife Simone Johnson. He kept the red carpet interesting with his Giorgio Armani Made to Measure indigo-blue, silk herringbone pattern one-button dinner jacket with black satin peak lapels, perhaps selected to correspond with Simone’s sparkling blue gown. Playing off those lapels, he wore black pants and a black hat. I wish the blue colour had a deeper richness of hue—and that the bow tie wasn’t quite so comically big.
John Legend: Skipping the ubiquitous blue and black colour palette, the ‘All of Me’ singer and nominee wore a gray Dolce & Gabbana suit with a crisp white shirt underneath. No tie was needed for this polished and sleek outing.
Adam Levine: Performing alongside Gwen Stefani, the singer donned a Dior Homme charcoal-grey wool, two-button notch-lapel sport jacket, black wool slim trousers, a white cotton shirt and grey silk tie. The tie’s ‘optimistic future’ scrawling print is what sold this look to me, delivering the graphic, urban edge I was seeking.
Keith Urban: The nominee took a typically laidback approach in a head-to-toe Lanvin look in dark tonal shades that included a sport coat, T-shirt and denim, all capped off with a pair of lug-sole boots. Cool and casual, or too careless?
