Dior Shanghai Spring 2013 Couture

As Asia is such an important market for fashion brands, Christian Dior headed east to present their Spring 2013 Haute Couture collection at Five on the Bund in Shanghai, China on Saturday, inviting several of our favourite Asian actresses who all wore looks from the Dior Spring 2013 ready-to-wear collection.

Zhang Ziyi: The Asian superstar took her front-row seat wearing a look from the Spring 2013 ready-to-wear collection, which has been so successful on the red carpet. She selected a yellow-gold paillette dress with a layered tulle overlay. This look would’ve been amazing if she had worn the runway belt. As presented, Zhang looks very boxy.

Shu Qi: Taking a more masculine approach, Shu Qi wore a Dior charcoal-grey tuxedo dress with notched lapels and a pleated skirt with shimmering blue and pink panels. Not only do I not get the dress, but I also don’t understand the styling choice of adding patterned tights. A very rare miss for Shu Qi.

Angelababy: Even Angelababy can’t make this collection work. All I see here is a lot of fabric posing as a tri-coloured strapless Dior dress, and a solid effort to lift the look with pink Dior sandals and a grey Miss Dior bag; sadly, those efforts are to no avail.

Sun Li: The actress is the only one who gets a pass from me. While we have seen this Dior strapless tuxedo dress before on Allison Williams, this is the only dress that worked on this red carpet; of course, it is hard to go wrong with an LBD.

Do any of these looks work for you? In answer to my own question, “No.”

Who Wore Balmain S13 Better Hyun Bin or Yong Jun-hyung

Hyun Bin wore a Balmain collarless brown leather jacket from the Spring 2013 collection while at Incheon International Airport in South Korea earlier this month.

The South Korean actor opted to style his rock n’ roll jacket with a deep-neck black shirt, a pair of distressed blue jeans and black boots.

Yong Jun-hyung arrived at the ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ world premiere, along with Ha Yeon-Soo, wearing the same jacket a few days later.

The ‘Beast’ singer/songwriter wore the jacket with a black-and-red colour-blocked shirt, black leather pants and a pair of black high-top sneakers.

I can’t say I’m a huge fan of either look; I would have preferred a mixture of the two.

I like everything about Jun-hyung’s outfit except the leather pants. Had he worn jeans like Hyun Bin, I think it would have made for a great look.

Hyun Bin wins for me.

Qiu Lan In Andrew Gn - 7th Asian Film Awards

Qin Lan was also back on the red carpet this evening, joining Michelle Yeoh for the 7th Asian Film Awards in Hong Kong.

Dressed in an on-trend black-and-white Andrew Gn Spring 2013 gown (I told you we are likely to see this trend continue until summer), the Asian beauty kept her look simple on this occasion.

Her origami gown with a white bodice and black voluminous skirt may be setting off déjà vu bells ringing in your ears.

That’s because Mary Elizabeth Winstead wore a similar look to the 2013 Vanity Fair party this year, but she wore Look 52 as opposed to Qin Lan’s Look 51.

They differ as Qin’s look has black shoulders, a plunging neckline with a nude mesh panel and a black leather belt.

Qin Lan’s bold red carpet look was styled with silver jewels and accessories including a boxy clutch and a coral lip colour.

Which look do you prefer? Michelle in Elie Saab Couture or Qin Lan’s Andrew Gn?

Michelle Yeoh In Elie Saab Couture - 7th Asian Film Awards

Michelle Yeoh’s second red carpet outing in as many days saw her grace the red carpet at the 7th Asian Film Awards in Hong Kong, China this evening.

Looking much more like her elegant self, the legendary actress wore an Elie Saab Fall 2012 Couture gown.

Her printed gown with a rich gold-lace-embroidered bodice was styled with a gold clutch and silver jewels.

I’m trying to overlook the silver jewels – my preference would’ve been gold – but if I put my finger over the clutch, the silver jewels do surprisingly work for me with the gold embroidery.

Simple makeup and a chic chignon completed her look.

Does anyone prefer the Valentino dress over this Elie Saab Couture look?

Qiu Lan In Peter Pilotto - 7th Asian Film Awards Cocktail Party

Qiu Lan joined Michelle Yeoh on the red carpet at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Hong Kong on Sunday for the 7th Asian Film Awards cocktail party ahead of the main event.

Not one for princess ballgowns, the Asian beauty wore an edgy look by London-based design duo Peter Pilotto.

Her sleeveless, square-neck Spring 2013 cocktail dress with a slight trumpet silhouette and cut-out detail could be mistaken for a top and skirt, as the look features an elaborate beaded, sequinned emerald-and-black embroidered top with a contrasting printed skirt.

Embracing both new and classic perspectives on elegance, utilising otherworldly patterns on soft sculptural shapes, her dress, which focuses on modernity, was thankfully not styled with plain black pumps.

Qiu Lan opted for a perforated pair of nude open-toe sandals, completing the look with rosy cheeks and a dark-pink lip colour.

Michelle Yeoh In Valentino - 7th Asian Film Awards Cocktail Party

Michelle Yeoh took to the red carpet for the 7th Asian Film Awards cocktail party ahead of the main event held at Grand Hyatt Hotel in Hong Kong on Sunday.

She wore a Valentino Resort 2013 floral embroidered short-sleeved dress.

Not for the first time in the last week have I felt that this Valentino dress would’ve worked better on one of the teen stars of Hollywood.

I love the dress but it feels too twee for someone of Michelle’s stature, especially when you factor in that pink bow accent.

Jimmy Choo sandals and a Jimmy Choo ‘Tube’ clutch completed her look.

Do you agree? Is this dress too twee for Michelle?
