Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Isla Fisher In Dolce & Gabbana - ‘The Great Gatsby’ World Premiere

It sure was a packed night on the red carpet, with one of the stars of the movie, Isla Fisher, taking her spot on the red carpet at Avery Fisher Hall at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City on Wednesday evening alongside Carey Mulligan, Florence Welch and Nina Dobrev for ‘The Great Gatsby’ world premiere.

Sporting a lighter strawberry-blonde ‘do, the Australian actress looked regal wearing a Dolce & Gabbana gown.

If you look closely you can see that the gown is formed in two parts: a sheer navy floral-print top and a black lace skirt with a short underlay and floral appliqués.

It seems like a strange choice. Why not all navy and sheer or all black lace? However, I feel like the contrasting fabrics allow this gown to stand out from the 100s of Dolce & Gabbana black-lace gowns we have seen grace the red carpet on many occasions.

A black Roger Vivier clutch, Fred Leighton jewels and Dolce & Gabbana heels completed her look.
Does this hybrid Dolce gown get a thumbs up from you?

Star Trek Into Darkness - Moscow Premiere

Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Alice Eve attended the ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Moscow premiere held at the Oktyabr Cinema Hall in Moscow, Russia yesterday evening.

Chris Pine: The actor has a knack of outdoing himself with every look. On this occasion, he looked like a Wall Street banker, wearing a slick striped grey suit. The tan Ralph Lauren shoes which he loves were swapped out for a black pair on this occasion.

Zachary Quinto: I’m obsessed with Zachary’s eggplant suit. The fit, the colour, the sheen and his constant attempts to keep menswear varied and interesting keep me hooked, especially when paired with bright-blue lace-up shoes.

Alice Eve: Sporting a braided updo, the British actress wore a Dolce & Gabbana black lace dress with floral appliqués. The look, which features a black bodysuit, was styled with a gold pendant necklace and black pumps. Her red manicure provided a pop of colour to her sexy chic look.

Lin Peng In Dolce & Gabbana - 3rd Beijing International Film Festival

Lin Peng attended the closing ceremony for the 3rd Beijing International Film Festival held at the China National Convention Center in Beijing, China yesterday evening.

The actress wore a Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2013 dress.

I am surprised to see this look on the red carpet again so soon; you may remember I featured Audrey Tautou wearing this same skirt yesterday.

The difference is that Peng is wearing the skirt the wrong way around. The trio of kings print, which should be at the front, appears on the side here.

Peng’s floral-appliqué top is the only thing I like about this look; her black pumps are too office-like for my personal taste with this fiery look.

Menswear Midweek Round Up

Chris Hemsworth: For the 50th Anniversary Wool Awards in Sydney on Tuesday, the Australian actor sported an Ermenegildo Zegna light-grey three-piece suit with notch lapels. He paired the well-cut suit with a white shirt, a matching patterned tie, and black leather boots. I prefer this finished look to his usual unbuttoned-shirt look.

Matthew McConaughey: After stepping out in a wildly perfect Vivienne Westwood MAN suit for the ‘Mud’ screening, Matthew returned to his usual brand in a Dolce & Gabbana classic black suit from the sartorial collection for an appearance on the ‘Late Show with David Letterman’. His conservative notch-lapel suit was finished off with a white shirt and black lace-up shoes. I liked the multicoloured suit more, but this was the perfect casual look for a late show.

Brad Goreski: Opting for a loud red carpet look, Bravo’s Brad Goreski wore a Ferragamo yellow double-breasted suit from the Spring 2013 collection for the 24th GLAAD Media Awards in LA on Saturday. It’s incredibly bright and features just one set of buttons, making it even more difficult to pull off. Brad is zany enough for it, but I don’t think it fit as well as it could have. It did go well with the light-blue tab-collar shirt and the green-and-yellow tie, though.

BAFTA New York Celebrates ‘Mad Men

BAFTA New York celebrated the leading lovelies, (and the dapper guys, too), of AMC’s ‘Mad Men’ on Monday at The Harvard Club in New York City. I wanted to be ‘mad’ about the ladies’ looks, but I was left feeling a bit underwhelmed by a few of them.

Jessica Paré:  The Canadian stunner wore a jade-green dress, gilded in gold bric-a-brac at the neck and sleeves, from L’Wren Scott’s Fall 2013 collection. The slimline dress showed off her figure, but I couldn’t take my eyes off the distracting black Casadei ‘Blade’ pumps. They weren’t right for this look, as I much preferred the metallic gold shoes that took to the runway.

January Jones: With her black leather Versace motorcycle jacket and printed Parker mini-skirt, the actress mixed punk and playful styles. Black Miu Miu platform pumps and a tousled bob finished this sporty moment that was certainly worlds away from her classic-glam ‘Mad Men’ character.

Christina Hendricks: The flame-haired star covered up her curves in a long-sleeve, knee-length black Valentino dress. While it did have some silhouette-enhancing trim at the waist and bodice, these details all but disappeared into the blackness. The spark was further extinguished with tired Stuart Weitzman black shoes—a more inspired pair would have worked wonders. At least Christina’s bold red lip provided some much-needed drama.

Kiernan Shipka: The young starlet stood out here with her adorable Dolce & Gabbana bow-accented frock that managed to look simultaneously sophisticated and age-appropriate. She also gets points for her retro side-swept wave and her decision to opt out of black pumps, choosing instead a mesh pair.
