Toronto Film Festival Red Carpet Roundup

The 2017 Toronto Film Festival red carpet has been red-haute with looks throughout the weekend, and here is a roundup of the rest of the stars that were seen on Sunday (September 10).

Margaret Qualley: The young starlet was at the ‘Novitate’ premiere dressed in a Valentino Fall 2017 gown. This ornate look translated a bit heavily for me, but it’s intriguing to watch Margaret continue to boldly experiment with her style.

Evan Rachel Wood: I absolutely loved this Stella McCartney Resort 2018 pinstripe ensemble on the actress at the ‘A Worthy Companion’ premiere. Riffing on menswear, the look perfectly played into her edgy style sensibility while providing a different take on the suiting trend with its play on proportions. Her makeup seemed a bit overzealous, but that would be my main qualm. Giuseppe Zanotti shoes completed her look.

Elisabeth Moss: After a few recent looks that successfully pushed the boundaries of Elisabeth’s go-to style, she was back in her comfort zone at ‘The Square’ premiere with this Rochas retro-inspired jumper and skirt accessorised with Chloe Gosselin embellished pumps.

HFPA & InStyle TIFF Party Roundup

More femmes flaunted their style at the HFPA & InStyle TIFF Party on Saturday (September 9), joining Emma Roberts, Greta Gerwig and Jess Weixler.

Jessica Chastain: The actress took a flirty turn in an Elie Saab Resort 2018 embroidered in swirls of colour; a cleavage-forward look that proved that sexy and sweet can go hand in hand.

Margot Robbie: I loved the retro-mod, rock-star-chic vibe of this Saint Laurent Fall 2017 mini that brought maximum impact via the signature bold shoulder and crystal embellishment to an otherwise minimal LBD.

Dianna Agron: Despite the deep plunge, there was a quietly sophisticated allure that permeated this Schiaparelli gown that featured an ever-so-faintly transparent skirt. This is the kind of sheer I can fully get on board with.

‘Top of the Lake: China Girl’ New York Premiere

Gwendoline Christie and Elisabeth Moss brought suiting options to the red carpet for the ‘Top Of The Lake China Girl’ premiere on Thursday (September 7) in New York City.

Gwendoline Christie: I would’ve been more inclined to get excited about her Vivienne Westwood Couture look had the draped detail been at the side and not at the front. I’m guessing it held more weight in movement. It certainty looks stunning in the sketch below.

Elisabeth Moss: Opting for tried and true tailoring, Elisabeth kept the styling of her A.L.C. satin lapel suit simple and chic sans blouse. Subtle Jennifer Meyer jewels and a watermelon lip colour rounded out her look. This might just be my favourite look from Elisabeth this year.

FYC Event For Hulu’s ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’

A trio of lovelies were at the FYC event for Hulu’s ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ on Monday (August 14) in LA.

Elisabeth Moss: We often feel Elisabeth Moss can do so much better when it comes to her style, and while this sequin pussy-bow Tommy Hilfiger Fall 2016 dress was very much in keeping with her fashion wheelhouse, it seemed to resonate with a slightly more playful femininity that was refreshing to see on the actress. Her golden curls and luminous makeup added to the effect.

Samira Wiley: I would have loved to have seen this floaty, floral Zimmermann jumpsuit styled with a more delicate sandal.

Alexis Bledel: Anything blue will forever be Alexis’s colour, as even the blue bird print of this Christian Siriano Pre-Fall 2017 dress brought out her own piercing baby blues. I almost want to remove the jacket, but as presented, it held true to the actress’s sense of modest whimsy.

2017 TCA Awards

Other stars were honoured along with Reese Witherspoon for their respective work at the 2017 TCA Awards, held during the Summer Television Critics Association Tour on Saturday (August 5) in Beverly Hills, California.

Elisabeth Moss: While Elisabeth’s style is often hit or miss, here she impressed in a shimmery emerald dress by The Vampire’s Wife paired with embellished pumps, an Edie Parker ‘Jean’ clutch, and Irene Neuwirth jewels.

Mandy Moore: The ‘This Is Us’ actress continued to experiment with new iterations of her style in this Missoni dress recognizable for its signature patterning and textural work. She teamed the look with an Edie Parker ‘Jean’ clutch and EFFY Jewelry, adding brightness to the desert-tinged metallic colourways with a cherry-red lip.

Elisabeth Moss In Preen – Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Grants Banquet

It’s fair to say that Elisabeth Moss’ red carpet style has failed to excite the majority since Cannes, but I feel like things might change upon seeing her Preen Resort 2018 dress worn to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Grants Banquet on Wednesday (August 2) in Beverly Hills, California.

Bold colours, a dropped waist, and a fluted hem – are all present in this striking floral-print dress.

I love how it offers a graceful asymmetry that feels simultaneously modern and nostalgic.

Factor in her Edie Parker yellow ‘Jean’ clutch, Stella Luna ‘Indispensable’ ankle-strap pumps and subtle Jennifer Fisher jewels which in total perfect this blooming look.

‘Top of the Lake: China Girl’ – Television Critics Association Press Tour

The 2017 Summer Television Critics Association Press Tour brought out four femmes behind ‘Top of the Lake: China Girl’ for a panel discussion on Saturday (July 29) in Beverly Hills, California.

Elisabeth Moss: I always find myself slightly underwhelmed by Elisabeth’s style, as I think she often dresses too maturely. This Camilla and Mark pleated frock fell somewhat in that category, although the brighter colour and print was a step in the right direction. However, the high neckline isn’t the most flattering or youth-achieving for her.

Gwendoline Christie: While Gwendoline’s 6’3” height will always command attention, I was bored with her choice of menswear-inspired ensembles as she can do so much more with her statuesque form than this standard-issue silk blouse and black trousers uniform.

Nicole Kidman: With a rosy outlook, Nicole donned a dainty Rochas Resort 2018 embroidered ruffle dress. I always like seeing her channel a softer, feminine side, but the illusion neckline and overbearing sleeves quickly ruined me on this prairie frock.

Alice Englert: Marching to the beat of her own style drum, Alice kept it quirky and casual in her plaid shirt and boyfriend jeans, topped off with sculpted teal sandals for a style-rebel look that certainly made no apologies.

Clearly, there was no fashion pow-wow prior to this panel, given this highly eclectic, motley mix of looks.
