Cate Blanchett tops my list of Fashion Favourites and for good reason. She can pull off any style, from cutting edge to classic.

On the red carpet Cate is always dressed by the major fashion designers, Valentino, Dior and edgy designers such as Rodarte and Alexander McQueen.

Here is a pick of my favourite Cate Blanchett red carpet dresses.

This is my favourite dress of all time, Givency Couture. Cate Blanchett looked classy, as she always does at the opening of the Berlinale International Film Festival where she attended her premiere of ‘The Good German’.

This Valentino gown is my second favourite Cate Blanchett dress is. What I love about it most is the burgundy accent and the jewellery detail on the right shoulder. Cate wore this to the 2005 Oscars.

The detail on this Versace Spring 2007 dress is amazing. I think only someone as strong as Cate could own this dress. She wore this to the ‘Good German’ premiere in Hollywood.

Cate’s had a second film to promote at Berlinale, ‘Notes on a Scandal’. For this event she shone again in this beautiful purple Yves Saint Laurent gown from the Spring 2007 collection.

This is another cutting edge design that only Cate could have pull off and owned. The Blue Balenciaga Spring 2007 dress she wore to the Palm Springs Film Festival.

I love the detail in the spiderweb like top Cate is wearing. This Armani outfit is beautiful, Cate wore it to the Penfolds Black Tie Gala this year….in fine style I might add.

At The AFI Awards Cate wore this cream Rodarte dress from the Fall 2006 collection. I love the detail and the colour.

Cate wore this dress to the ‘Aviator’ Premiere in 2004. I love the quirkiness of this dress and how elegant she looks in it.

I love this Chanel Couture Fall 2006 mini dress only because it is crazy. Cate wore this to the ‘Volver’ Premiere in London.

The last of my favourites is this Ralph Lauren Spring 2007 gown Cate wore to the ‘Babel’ Premiere. It is just a classic plain dress which Cate brings to life.

Blue Bella’s – these ladies rocked the colour blue on the red carpet showing that it can be a sexy alternative to black. Black was quite rare on the carpet this year excluding Queen Latifah’s sexy gown.

Strapless dresses were very popular worn by Penelope Cruz, Reese Witherspoon and Jada Pinkett-Smith and many others. The strapless dress looked very elegant with those who choose to wear their hair up.

Green/Mint was also a very popular choice. Kate Winslet’s opted for a Grecian dress and Beyonce chose a mint green Armani number. You would not think green would be a popular colour on the red carpet but these women wore it well.

One shoulder gowns were evident on the some of the best dressed stars.

Long hair made a comeback after the emergence of the “Pixie” cut that stars like Michelle Williams, Selma Blair and Victoria Beckham have opted for recently.

Best Dressed/Chris De Burgh, Lady In Red Award – Nicole Kidman she was stunning in this red Balenciaga dress. I wish she had maybe put up her hair but the colour and fit was perfect for her.

Best Dressed Award Winner Award – Helen Mirren in Christian Lacroix. I said WOW when I saw this dress, it’s so perfect for the Oscar winner, the colour and the feminine floatness of the dress made her shine.

Greatest Gainer Award – Penelope Cruz in Versace. I loved Penelope when I first saw her then they panned down and then I recoiled in horror, but as the night wore on and I saw the dress in motion and the pictures I actually now like it.

Best Metallic Award – Cate Blanchett is wearing a silver, one-shouldered Armani Prive. I like this dress but it did not wow me. I was hoping for more from Blanchett…She should have saved her Berlin Film Festival Givenchy dress for this occasion.

Best Black, Best Curves, Most Flattering Award – Queen Latifah in Carmen Marc Valvo. The black gown with horizontal lines would normally make someone look – please forgive me – wider, but the black sleekness made Latifah sexy and voluptuous.

Best Colour Award – Reese Witherspoon in Nina Ricci. I would not have chosen this colour for Reese but it is very dramatic and works well on her. Being single is working for her stylewise, she is really working it.

Jennifer Lopez “Ass That Won’t Quit” Award – Anika Noni Rose. The Michelle Williams of the trio is working it here in this beautiful dress.

Best Couple Award – Emily Blunt in Calvin Klein and Michael Buble. They looked great together and she was delightful in this gown. One of the few wows of the night.

Most Improved Award – Rinko Kikuchi in Chanel. I was expecting something Bjork-like from this lady as most of her red carpet dresses have been Wa Waaa. Glad she stepped it up for the big day.

Best Dressed Family Award – The Smiths. Jada managed to look feminine for a change. Will’s gets more Clooney fine every time I see him and his grey hair. Jaden such a cute kid and recovered well when he fluffed his lines.

Best Pregnant Award – Naomi Watts in Escada. She is beautiful and glowing like most pregnant ladies do but the dress was very reminiscent of Cate Blanchett’s 2005 Vera Wang dress

Best Upstage Award – Monica Cruz. Looking fabulous in this powder blue dress.

Risk Taker That Paid Off Award – Eva Green in Givenchy Haute Couture. She is always pushing the boundaries. Sometime it works sometimes it does not, tonight it worked…well for me anyway. She never opts for the boring or obvious.

On Saturday Giorgio Armani threw mega Pre-Oscar bash for all his close A-list friends.

Rather cleverly Giorgio threw this party before the Oscars – making sure that no one else was bagging his guests (and clients.)

As a special touch Giorgio welcomed his guests personally.

The guest of honour Katie Homles with the host.

Mischa Barton in a dress that does not do her figure any justice.

Naomi Campbell gets it slightly wrong with that jacket. Too much flesh.

Helen Mirren popped in, in this formal outfit.

Jason Lewis is still hot…

Adrian Brody arrives with his striking lady friend. Her dress is Gorgeous.

Cate Blanchett looking like she got caught up in a spider web.

Angie Harmon look fantastic as she towers over Giorgio.

Beyonce strikes a pose with Giorgio.

The Cruz sister make an Armani sandwich.

Katie is joined by her Scientologist buddy John Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston.

Kelly and Sharon Osbournes could almost be sisters.

Leo does not age. He is still hot.

Gorgeous dress for Sandra Oh topped off with great shoes.

Ziyi Zhang looks like a cute kid.

This is the round up of all the red carpet events from last week.

Berlinale International Film Festival

I am still trying to get over my disappointment at Cate’s Golden Globe dress but here she is at Berlinale International Film Festival at the Notes On A Scandal Premiere doing what she does best and that is GLOWING and it is effortless. The colour, the ruffles, the hair, the make up, the dress, EVERYTHING is perfect….I CAN NOT WAIT for her Oscar dress…I am expecting to be blown away. Dress of the week.

Jennifer Lopez looking simple but elegant in Berlin promoting her new movie Bordertown. The shoes are fierce, Louboutin I guess.

Has Sharon Stone ever got it right?

Diane Kruger was also at Berlinale attending the Goodbye Bafana Premiere and I must say I love this dress….not many could pull it off but she did. I am not a fan of birds feathers on dresses but this gets my thumb up.

Ghost Rider Premiere, New York

Eva Mendes attended the New York Premiere of Ghost Rider wearing the beautiful mauve dress. The colour is to die for and suits her caramel skin tone perfectly. Her hair is tied back to show the dress off to full effect.

A-mazing. Runner up in dress of the week.

Petra Nemcova turned up to the same event but either could not be bothered to make the effort or had a crap stylist.

Grey Matters Screening, New York

Heather Graham turned up in this fleshly coloured dress which in my opinion totally washes her out. I would have preferred it if she had opted for colour.

The loveable Molly Shannon opted for this gorgeous white dress which is just the right length to show off her perfect pins. The detail on the dress turns what would have been a boring white dress into a fabulous dress.

Jane Krakowski also arrived in this slinky black number which although lacked any pizaz looks simply stunning on her as she opted for style and comfort over glamour.

The Number 23 Premiere, LA

Best dressed at this premiere was Garcelle Beauvais. Everything is working for me…the boots, the hair and the dress all simple but Garcelle is working it.

Jenny McCarthy was trying not to take the attention away from her man I would assume in this lackluster effort.

Although Virginia Madsen added some colour to the evening I am not liking the dress…everything else – the bag, the coat and the bangles – are working for me but NOT the dress.

Christina Applegate you are an attractive girl…PLEASE TRY HARDER.

Carla Gugino…you are WAAAAAYYYY to pale for this corset but the skirt is great.

Brittany Snow…Please read note to Applegate above.

I am loving Jordan Ladd here in this outfit…very rock n’ roll she is obviously knows her style and is not trying to be something she is not.

Dreamgirls Promotion, Tokyo, Japan

Jennifer is doing a sterling job on her world tour of promoting DreamGirls. Here she is in Japan looking fantastic….she really needs to give her stylist a bonus for knocking it out of the park again.

Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Party, Beverly Hills

Katherine McPhee has some great curves granted but I am not liking this wannbee Mariah Carey get up.

Now I am a HUGE fan of Tyra Banks but this is just terrible…she has lost the plot here?

This would have been great on Naomi if the bottom half was not so see-through.

Great dress on Christina but as usual too much fake bake and they miss a spot in her cleavage.

This is just OK on Vanessa Minnillo. She has been trying hard lately since being thrust into the limelight with Nick Lachey and she is gradually getting better.

Sorry Mary..a big thumbs down for on the colour for me. The dress is nice and the shoes are to die for.

Nice dress and body but not liking the face…sorry Rhianna.

Each to their own but this is just bad on Lisa Marie Presley.

Finch And Partners Pre-BAFTA Party, London

Yasmin Le Bon and Thandie Newton look great in black. Yasmin teams her dress with -hopefully- a faux fur coat. Thandie adds a touch of gold to add a bit of glamour.
