Beauty Trend Spotting - Pantone’s 2014 Colour of the Year Radiant Orchid

Never one to miss a trend, celebrities had a head start wearing Pantone’s 2014 Colour of the Year Radiant Orchid. It’s a violet shade with pink undertones, which work well from season-to-season.

Beyonce Knowles, wore the hue on her lips in one of her newest videos ‘No Angel’. You can’t go wrong with a stain that combines the moisture of a gloss. Try Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture À Lèvres Glossy Stain in 16 Pourpre Preview.

Lucy Hale painted the shade on her nails for the 2013 Kid’s Choice Awards. For a shade that compliments any complexion paint on O.P.I. Classics Collection Nail Lacquer in Lucky Lavender.

Naya Rivera showed us how the lavender tone makes brown eyes pop at the FOX All-Star Party. Make eyes pop with NYX Slim Eyeliner in Lavender Shimmer.

If you really love Pantone’s choice, why not try it out on your hair like Kelly Osborne at the 2013 SAG Awards? If you really love the color make a semi-permanent commitment with Manic Panic in Electric Amethyst.

I’m not quite ready to dye my hair, but I’ll definitely wear this lip colour in a heartbeat. How will you wear Radiant Orchid in 2014?

Hair Trend Spotting Braids 2
There’s no easier way to enhance your everyday hairstyle. Whether it’s a ponytail or a quick fix to keeping your tresses out of your face, celebrities are obsessed this season with braids.

Katy Perry pulled off a lengthy braided ponytail at the 15th NRJ Music Awards. For a full braid like hers clip-in extensions are a must.

Solange Knowles loves wearing box plaits, and she should, because they look great on her. To get this side swept style let the ends unravel freely.

Olivia Palermo, the braid connoisseur, wore two braids with her chignon at the 2013 Marie Claire Prix de la Moda Awards. The key to this look is using minimal product to achieve the ladylike softness.

Zoe Saldana’s braid is perfectly (un) done. For the effortless chic look curl hair first and tie a black ribbon on the tip of the loosely braided coils.

Is it just the celebrities, or are you obsessed with braids this season too?

Bella Thorne

Bella Thorne’s laidback outfit on the red carpet of the DigiFest LA may have been casual, but her pretty strands were holiday party worthy. The look is perfect for any festivity; the wispy waves add glamour in the front and the deconstructed braids are sure to grab everyone’s attention. Not to mention, those bangs that perfectly framed Bella’s face.

LA based hairstylist, Cesar Ramirez, says the key to getting the voluminous waves is to create volume from the roots. Before adding heat, he prepped her locks with the Alterna Caviar Style Prep.

Instead of turning to a curling iron, the waves were created by using a flat iron. Make sure to opt for one with large ceramic plates, which ensures even heat distribution throughout each strand. Cesar chose the Harry Josh Pro Tools Ceramic Styling Iron to style the tousled strands.

Creating the braids is surprisingly easier than it looks. Grab a section from the left side and begin French braiding. Ramirez said, “The trick is to drop off a piece of the braid after each criss-cross while making your way over to the opposite side.”

Once you’ve made it across, French braid the right side, this time adding the dropped strands in with the second braid.  Ensure your braids and waves stay in place with hairpins and Alterna Caviar Working Spray.

Don’t stress if the braids slightly unravel throughout the night. Softness is key to this look and deconstruction only helps.

Hair Trend Spotting Headbands

Just in time for the holidays, we’ve seen stars wearing headbands on the red carpet. There really is no easier way to dress up your ‘do, whether it’s up or down, for any holiday parties you’re attending than with a decorative headband, and you can take your cues from these lovely ladies.

Amy Adams kept her long hair pulled back from her face with a classic black zig zag headband, and you can recreate the look with any headband with teeth–something that is easy to find at most drugstores.

Isabelle Fuhrman used a headband to add some pizzazz to a simple updo, as did the models on Valentino’s Spring 2014 runway with their low ponytails. For this type of usage, the band really serves as mere decoration, and just takes the style to the next level.

For something decorative and functional, like we saw on Katy Perry, look for something with structure, so it will hold your hair in place, but also plenty of flowers, gems or lace to really glam up your look.

Hair Trend Spotting Sleeked Back Styles

Recently, stars have been going for understated fierceness by sleeking their hair straight back and away from their hairline.

Emmy Rossum made her mark on the trend at ELLE’s 20th Annual Women in Hollywood Celebration with a tight, high, sleeked back pony that let her sexy red gown and bright lips take center stage. And Naya Rivera rocked the look at the same event, only slightly lowering the ponytail. Selena Gomez also recently went for the sleek, high ponytail.

Last week, Camilla Belle slicked back her chin-length bob into a super-sleek ‘do that beautifully complimented her romantic look, and Lea Michele followed suite last night by slicking her long tresses back and down.

At the 2013 Environmental Media Awards, Malin Akerman wore her hair back and tied into a large bun in the middle of her head, while Hayden Panetteire opted for a similar style, only fastening the length of her hair into a high topknot.

So how do you like the sleeked back style best: Down, fastened into a ponytail or fastened into a bun?
