Salma Hayek In Alexander McQueen – 2013 Oscars

SalmaHayekAlexanderMcQueen

Salma Hayek wowed on the red carpet at Sunday’s 2013 Oscars at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.

Normally one to choose a low-cut dress, Salma went the opposite direction in a high-neck cut from Alexander McQueen.

In a baroque design, the actress stunned in a gold-embellished neckline that blended into a sweetheart cut of midnight blue velvet. The curve-hugging dress showed off her hourglass figure, making the petite actress actually look quite statuesque.

Salma styled her ornate gown with a gold box clutch and tiara, also from Alexander McQueen. To top it all off, she chose a high and voluminous bun, smokey eye, and nude lip.

Cindy Chao jewels completed her look.

Don’t get me wrong, this is a stunning dress and a stunning look, but I keep getting the feeling that Salma’s head is too big for her body, especially with that hairdo..

    • Rafael February 25, 2013 at 05:36 #

LOOOOL i was about to write the same, her head looks huge and the body really small. But ok, she looks georgeous!

    • lu February 25, 2013 at 20:34 #

I was thinking the same thing. I like the dress and she looks great, but the high neck and hair make her head look way to big for her body.

Tina,,what u said is the truth

    • Francois Bresmal March 1, 2013 at 21:22 #

This is the truth and this ridiculously high hairstyle doesn’t help that feeling

  2. Christine February 25, 2013 at 05:39 #

Exquisite. I just love that gorgeous neckline.

  3. gurlygurl February 25, 2013 at 05:43 #

One of her best looks. Very reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffanys.

  4. Yeliz February 25, 2013 at 06:28 #

The gown is the only thing I like about this look.

  5. the ogre February 25, 2013 at 06:54 #

oh my god! my jaw dropped at the sight of this! she should wear more high necklines. she looks fantastic here! smoldering hotness!

  6. msd February 25, 2013 at 07:14 #

I appreciate that’s she trying but Salma isn’t edgy and McQueen really needs someone with an edge.

    • Lashae February 25, 2013 at 10:25 #

+1. Also this dress would look better on someone who is taller like Nicole Kidman.

    • dee February 25, 2013 at 13:42 #

      I totally agree.

    • chryssa February 25, 2013 at 13:56 #

+1 i don’t like anything about this look…maybe just the makeup..

  7. d February 25, 2013 at 08:11 #

    one of her best look

  8. DM February 25, 2013 at 08:50 #

I do like this. It’s a hard look to pull off perhaps, but she does it. The beauty of her face is highlighted by the neckline.

  9. justme February 25, 2013 at 08:54 #

This dress is amazing on her.
The big bun kinda throws the proportions off though.

    • Marybeth February 25, 2013 at 17:57 #

      Exactly.
Had she worn her hair in a bun at the back of her head, she would definitely be a top contender for my best dressed.
As it is, the hair makes her body look even shorter than it is and ruins the overall look.
      What a pity!

love the dress but the bun makes her head look bigger and you get a lollipop head vibe. Anyway she looks great

  11. Princess Chi Chi February 25, 2013 at 10:52 #

    WOW amazing, i love this!!

  12. CreoleLady February 25, 2013 at 11:12 #

Now THIS is unexpected — and a good way. That gown is simply smashing. Point taken about the size of the bun. Too bad that dark band behind her obscures the incredible fit. I’m going to give the bun the benefit of the doubt until I see more pictures, hopefully without that distracting background.

  13. MaddyEliza February 25, 2013 at 12:58 #

Love this!! She looks amazing. Blew me away. Probably one of my favourites.

  14. Moxie February 25, 2013 at 13:16 #

Love it from the neck down. The dress is perfect on her body. But that hair! Too much and too high.

  15. Camille February 25, 2013 at 14:16 #

The dress is stunning. The hair is iffy but not heinous. It’s her makeup that is ruining this look for me. A nude lip is hard to pull off in real life. What looks good in print or an editorial photo shoot doesn’t always translate into reality. I think the extreme nude lip looks chalky and just throws this whole look off. The hair isn’t my favorite, but she needs a more natural less stark makeup.

  16. vicky February 25, 2013 at 14:54 #

From the forehead down I love it but that hair just doesn’t work!

  17. EmmaWoodhouse February 25, 2013 at 15:12 #

The gown is super flattering and dynamic, I think I really like this look! The hair is a bit much but the svelte line of the dress helps to balance it.

  18. LondonGirl February 25, 2013 at 15:14 #

Hair is an absolute mess – almost looks like some sort of mess. I wish she’d done a softer look, perhaps wavy updo or something. But the dress is absolutely blindingly stunning! Salma’s body is perfect for the fit – easily one of the best dresses of the night.

  19. Felicia February 25, 2013 at 15:48 #

The hair is just way too big for her body but I adore everything else!

  20. S-R February 25, 2013 at 16:13 #

It is a lovely dress; it works great on her body type. I just don’t know if she pulled it off, for me.

  21. Parvati February 25, 2013 at 16:44 #

I’m not crazy about her hairdo, but I really like the rest of her look.

  22. Stel February 25, 2013 at 18:22 #

I feel like she can’t breathe in that dress! If she was taller it wold be great! But it’s a no from me..

  23. Nathalie19 February 25, 2013 at 18:30 #

I am surprised that there are so many positive commments…

I think, it’s one of the worst looks of Salma ever!
    She looks small and neckless!

    • gabis February 26, 2013 at 20:36 #

      +1

  24. Liz February 26, 2013 at 00:27 #

Sexy! It does make her look shorter though.

  25. TeaAtTwo February 26, 2013 at 05:28 #

I love that she went for something more dramatic than her usual repetitive low cut looks.

  26. Marina February 26, 2013 at 13:20 #

With Salma Hayek and Eva Longoria I can never get on board with their hair. Not loving this voluminous bun.

That being said, I really like the baroque neckline and the velvet. She looks good when she manages to keep the girls under control. And those curves…

  27. gabis February 26, 2013 at 20:35 #

Not working for me. The dress is too tight and the hair is awful. I would love to see this dress on Jessica Chastain.
