I have been excited to learn that many of you are crushing on Solange Knowles’ style too.
She showcases her quirky and individual style for Glamour France for their July 2012 issue.
The DJ rocks her signature larger-than-life afro in her 80s-influenced editorial where we also get to see her wearing a Louis Vuitton scarf as a turban.
In her editorial we see Solange sports statement sunglasses, a tailored Just Cavalli blazer, a tie-dye Ralph Lauren denim jacket, a printed DVF jumpsuit, a Diesel Black Gold metallic jacket, the pink Acne dress I have been crushing on for a long while, a paisley-print Jil Sander skirt, and many other brightly coloured pieces. A boombox is also added into the mix.
Check out the amazing editorial below.
Here are some translated extracts from her interview.
On the secret to her style: [My style is] very eclectic as I like to take risks, but I always cling to glamourous touches and classic details. I’m not necessarily inspired by magazines or fashion. I surf a lot on blogs and find it cool to see real style from real people. My travels also influence me. I always take lots of pictures, and then inject all those inspirations into my wardrobe, my home decor, or my makeup. And we can’t forget the icons: Diana Ross, Erykah Badu, Bjork, and Lauryn Hill.
On how to successfully create a good mixed and matched [wardrobe]: If you have different prints, both pieces have to have the same fabric. Certain colours like violet and pink also work well with animal prints. And then, you have to create a certain harmony; I avoid mixing African patterns with Aztec prints, for example.
On style being a family affair for the Knowles: We love fashion, but we all have different styles. It must be said that we grew up with a grandmother who was a designer and my mother, who has her own collection.
On shopping with Beyonce: I do 90% of my shopping online and now my whole family does the same! From time to time, though, my sister and I will pop by Opening Ceremony in New York and spend a few hours there.
On shopping in Paris: I prefer to pass the afternoon at Place des Vosges with a picnic and a book. I also like to get lost in Paris; last summer I rented an apartment in the 10th arrondissement, and I explored all the cool cafés and bookstores in the area. I feel very safe in Paris. The metro is super easy to use and my son speaks French, so we always find our way around.
On the beauty item used to boost her look: I always wear mascara, and above all, I put on a flashy, matte lipstick. My favorite colour is “Firecracker Orange Fire” by Rimmel.
On her new projects on the horizon: I just finished my new album. It took me two years to write and compose it. It’s a new chapter in my life. I’m super excited.

I love the photo where she has on the shorts. So cool.
Love this editorial. My fav look was the leopard
I’m convinced she has started giving fashion tips to her sister.
As usual, I like her style. And she’s right, the metro here is easy as hell lol.
Love these pictures. She’s just too cool.
I do like those Knowles girls, both for their fashions and their down-to-earth personalities. Solange looks gorgeous as always here, but what does she have on her feet?
As much as I love solange’s style. I find this interview quite pretentious for some reason.
She had me at L. Boogie (Lauren Hill). True dat, the different styles. Her sister is never believable to me when trying to be edgy. However there is no camera in the world that does not love Bey’s face. On the other hand, Solange effortlessly pulls off edgy colors, prints and textures with cool girl finesse — and shoes which are to die for.
Perfectly put!
+1
EVERYTHING. TO. ME!!!!!!!!
Love everything about the cover shot. I love her style, especially her hair and the bold colours.
I never would have guessed lime green shoes could come in so handy.
The Knowles girls – so cool and so stylish! I totally dig Solange’s afro. Such a strong identify and so real. She also knows how to play with colors.
I much prefer and enjoy her stylethat Beyonce’s. More elegant, eftortless, and has that je ne-sais quoi.
pretty. She is one of my style crushes.
i love every picture!
I adore her!
Solange is definitely one of my top style inspirations. SO effortlessly edgy and chic! It seems as if style just comes naturally to her.
