Rooney Mara gave us no surprises on the red carpet as she posed for photographers at the 2012 Met Gala, held on Monday night in New York City.
Despite being seen shooting scenes for a new movie sporting lighter locks, the actress appears to have dyed the front of her hair a dark colour to give us the dark, moody glamour we have come to expect from her.
She wore a Givenchy Couture black asymmetrical one-sleeve lace dress with laser-cut leather details which was accented with a black leather belt.
A slicked-back bun, a dark pink lip shade, and black Givenchy sandals completed her look.

I think this is extraordinary and Rooney carries it well, but that pose detracts. This dress requires bold confidence not demure sweetness.
I actually like this. The touches of leather and the almost puffed sleeve give it some edge. She looks very dark and dramatic, but still pretty.
Reminds me a bit of Balenciaga s/s 2006.

I didn’t expect that, but i have to say that the Morticia look makes her stunning and i think that it’s appropriate for this gala too.
I actually really love this. It’s black (of course) but it’s still very dramatic and works very well for Rooney.
Love it!
Love love love!!! THIS is what you expect when you hear Givenchy – Coco, take note!
You say it. But I’m distracted by her pose too, always her hands in front of her.
I love it. This is the kind of drama that I look forward to every year at the Met.
As much as I love this, I’m drawn to the Prabal Gurung purple frock walking behind Rooney. I loved that purple print collection!
Me too!!
The always lovely Rooney Mara.
Love this.
I love it, I think this is one of her best look ever, besides red Valentino.
I love it. She represents Givenchy so well
This is actually very nice.
She looks great but her stance makes her look like an old lady in church.
I so love this! She looks absolutely beautiful. Now SHE does Givenchy justice. She looks totally within her goth style, but still really soft, feminine, and super sexy. I can’t remember the last time I loved so many looks in one night. (Definitely wasn’t the last Oscars)I don’t even know how I can pick a Best Dressed.
One of my best dressed.Even though she played it safe by keeping the goth attitude, she looks fabulous
I’ve been a Rooney fan, and I really like this dress on her and her whole look, but I just can’t take the pose anymore, it’s just so at odds with the rest of her style….so I’m tuning out on Rooney for awhile (at least on the RC).
This is so boring and predictable. I would love it on someone else but on Rooney it just looks like more of the same.
i live for this girl. she (or her stylist) has exquisite taste, and always manages to make black look fresh.
The dress is stunning but I’m not a fan of her hate the pose.
Love this look! It’s black again but she stood out in my eyes.
Though it is black, her hair and makeup look great and the romantic lace is a departure from her usual vibe. If the skirt wasn’t sheer (argh!) I would quite like this.
The pose, though, is too shy.
Mara did Givenchy right! honey, if you love black, i love you in black! i love lace! and i love when it is right. classy fit! No naked-lace (as i call it.) i LOVE it!
Love the hair and makeup. I’m not sure how I feel about the dress though. Love the top half A LOT and the belt. Not sure about the see through skirt though. She looks awesome.
Oh my freaking gosh I LOVE EVERYTHING that she wears!!!
I love this so much. I even saved the pic. Why is this so perfect?
It may be black, but it isn’t boring at all. The dress has really interesting details and I think it looks great on her. I would like to see her sporting a lighter hair colour, but the black hair looks great with this look, so no complaints here!
