Kirsten Dunst attended the 2012 Met Gala held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City this evening.
The actress doesn’t surprise us by wearing a custom Rodarte look.
I love that she went for something different. One can get tired of seeing a succession of similar strapless gowns hit the red carpet at these events.
Her pumpkin-and-cream wool crepe double lapel jacket accented with a thick black leather belt was teamed with a pumpkin wool and floral lace gown.
I hope we get to see the look sans jacket at some point, because the lace part looks enticing.
Like many others at this event, Kirsten opted for a retro wavy hairdo.

I love Kiki, I have for 10 years, but I hate this look.
I accidentally pressed send. She manages to make this look not age her, which is a feat, but this is not Met Gala for me. At most I kinda barely like it. I like the spirit that this look suggests: going against the grain and not doing the obvious. But this is too not obvious for me.
I amy be the only one but I LOVE this look. Very old school
The color is gorgeous on her skin.
I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it. I think it’s actually a great outfit, but on her it’s a no go. Plus the makeup just seems to be blending in with the dress, at least to my eyes.
J’aime! She looks like she stepped out from the past. *love*
I wish the neckline were higher, as it feels as though it is dragging too low, but I appreciate the eclectic vibe of this look. Very retro and VERY Schiaparelli–she did some amazingly chic suit-style ensembles. I think Kiki is WORKING this look. I would have preferred it in a different color, though…maybe…not sure…
And, can someone help me–I heard that Cate Blanchett and Diane Kruger were there as well…I can’t find a single photo of either! (I wasn’t able to watch the livestream)
Please tell me that they both looked fab!
the more i look at the dress the more i love it.
Santa´s Clause wife is coming to town, hahaha, so mean, but that´s the first thing that comes to my mind
+1
This look makes me think of Christmas, the fit and all is perfect but i couldn’t help but think of santa claus
Ditto.
I love this look. In a room full of sequins, over thought leather with horrific white laced shoes, and mermaid silhouettes Ms. Dunst stands out for the elegant simplicity of this look. Good on her!
I like the design of the dress but the colours just scream ‘Christmas’ at me. With the red, black and cream thrown all together, she just looks like Mrs.Clause.
Just good.
After seeing Kurkova I guess I’m not going to be impressed.
The hair and the outfit make her look like she just stepped off the set of Baz Luhrman’s ‘Australia’.
Now I’m curious to know what kind of top (if any) she is wearing underneath the jacket.
I normally adore her style, but I find this head to atrocious.
Mrs. Clause to the rescue to save the Met Gala from all the evil Fashion Victims (ie Jessica Alba, Kristen Stewart, Lana Del Rey, Emma Roberts, and the worst…. Heidi Klum)
She looks like a chic Santa Claus!!!
I cannot gush enough about his look! It’s so Jean Harlow old Hollywood. And it’s AUTHENTIC feeling old Hollywood. Lots of girls throw on some fringe and pin curls and say their vintage, but it’s just costumey.
Also, maybe it’s just my computer, but I’m not getting the Santa Clause vibe here. It looks more like a red-orange, almost pumpkin color to me.
BDOTYear for me, so far.
I want to love this because I love her, but I’m just not feeling it. I think it’s something that I’m going to have to sleep on, maybe I’ll feel differently in the morning.
Well at least she was warm because it was cool tonight in NYC…
LOL – Don’t like this at all.
*THIS look. Not his look. I am well aware tht Kirsten is female. LOL
I like the outfit but not for this occasion. I feel like she just stepped out of th Downton Abbey set. Add a hat and a pair of gloves.
It’s so sweet that Mrs. Claus got an invite
This is a dress that i will pick for some office party, not for MET Gala.
I don’t like it. It looks like she was on the set of a World World II movie, where she was playing a German spy. Cate Blanchett in The Good German came to mind. The gown is between a military uniform and a bath robe. A sexy spy at least.
I love her style, she’s very classy and never predictable. I hope to see her without the jacket, too. I like it from head to toe, so chic and outstanding.
not a dress for the met….
too costumey and doudy
CC
Again, so many seem to have decided to dress like it was just another premiere night. It’s the fricking Met Gala!!!
It’s totally Ms Dunst style and would have been OK on any other movie premiere but not here.
i am loving this
she looks like a chic new york socialite by not conforming with the colors, materials or trends of today
This is too good – i just think it’s not age appropriate- if she were 10/15 older tgat look would’ve worked
Very Marlene Deitrich.
That is what I thought too. I kinda like it.
love her look but I have a doubt on the dress…
The first words that came to mind was Mrs Claus! Seriously, I love Kirsten but this look is bad, it is the Met Gala for crying out loud!
She looks like she’s going on an expedition, but it’s not bad..
Just fine.
Nothing amazing or memorable.
Actually looks like she stole an outfit from some random movie set.
Thumbs up for daring originality!
Love it. The most stylish dress. The lines are perfect.
I don’t hate this look, but I find it a bit weird. It’s something different, but I think it ages her slightly.
Oddly, it took a Rodarte ensemble to make me understand what Prada and Schiaparelli could possibly have to do with each other. It marries that 1930s, 40s period in which Schiaparelli was at her height, with that schoolmarmish quality that has often been a Prada mainstay. So it fits the occasion quite well. Having said that, I don’t really love it, but I do appreciate it. Good for Dunst. She took us to school.
