Queen of the bright colours, Viola Davis, went for a muted look at the 2012 Writers Guild Awards, held in LA on Monday night.
Perhaps she couldn’t decide on which neutral to try first, donning a split black and white Raoul Pre-Fall 2012 halter gown which was cinched with a thick, black belt.
I’m on the fence about this dress, although I am thankful that it has a bit more coverage than her NAACP Awards gown.
Like Octavia, Viola has been loyal to the designer by wearing a lot of Raoul dresses during awards season.
Do you like this more straight-laced look for Viola, or is it too Cruella de Vil?

I like it… though my eyes keep wafting back to Octavia.
I think this edgier look works really well for her with the edgy thick leather belt and severe black and white division playing off her haircut and muscular arms perfectly while the bright lips add a pop of colour.
+1
Ditto!
Love it
I wished the belt is white and thin.
Much better than that orange dress at the NAACPs but her hair looks so styled – I wish she could have it more natural for once
I think she looks fabulous!
I think she looks great. I think the belt helps to give t his dress some much needed shape. I like that she is wearing black and white. It is change from her wearing color althought she looks great in bold colors.
I don’t like it at all.
I dig this look.
Loving this look
She can do better, but this isn’t bad. MUCH improved after the last fiasco! I like the black and white, actually. I think she pulls off crisp, minimalist looks well. I just wish that it fit better…
I love this look! different from what she was doing, the dress is very elegant, I think the belt was a smart choice and I love her hair styled like this.
She has really managed to stay intersting throughout the awards season. This is gorgeous!
i like this look, its very different from what you can expect from her, and the make and hear work perfectly with the ensemble
I think this is a very nice look. She wears a lot of bright colours, so it’s no big deal if she wears something neutral for a change. She also did a good thing by adding a belt to the dress, otherwise it would have been totally shapeless.
I agree with Parvati, it’s a nice change.
I adore this look, its amazing on her. It also makes her look five inches taller.
