Get The Look: Mandy Moore’s SAG Awards 1970’s Inspired Voluminous Curls

A departure from her usual ultra-chic and elegant style, Mandy Moore opted for more playful and super glamorous ‘70’s-inspired look for this year’s SAG Awards. From her custom cobalt Ralph Lauren dress to her warm, subtly smoky makeup, Mandy’s full look was certainly inspired by the beauties of the disco era. Above all, it was her airy, texturized curled hairstyle that brought this modern ‘70’s-like style to life.

Created by the super talented Celebrity Hairstylist Ashley Streicher, Mandy’s side parted waves were all about volume and rich texture which beautifully complemented her dazzling sequin dress. Using a vintage approach with a masterful blend of texturizers, the result was a cool hair style that borrowed from the classic hair looks of the popular dance era. Here’s how Ashley created this fun look without looking dated:

PREP: Start with freshly clean hair and let air dry. To create a foundation of that great texture seen in Mandy’s hair, Ashley re-dampened the hair by layering a blend of both Christophe Robin Instant Volumizing Mist with Rosewater and Reverie Surf Spray. The volumizing properties in both products mixed with the salty agents in the Reverie spray enhanced Mandy’s natural hair while adding shine and a tousled texture.

STYLE: Once prepped, Ashley sectioned the hair for heat styling. Beginning with the top front section, she used the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer and evenly blew out each segment with a Harry Josh Pro Tools Round Brush. While still warm, Ashley prepped each section with Garnier Full Control Hairspray before wrapping each section around 1 ¼ inch Velcro rollers. After the complete set of rollers were put in, Ashley sprayed the hair in a layer of Garnier Flexible Hold Hairspray and let them cool for 20 minutes.

Thereafter, each roller was neatly undone, and the hair was flipped over to shake out the freshly rolled curls. She then when back to each section and brushed each with a flat boar bristle brush, gently back-combing as she brushed. Not only did this add an extra layer of thickness and hold to each curl but soften the texture as well. Before moving on to the next section, she sprayed in some Garnier Flexible Hold Hairspray.

FINISH: Once done, Ashley parted Mandy’s hair on the side and neatly brushed the side, gathering it behind the ear and securing it in place with a thin bobby pin. For a ‘70’s textured look, she back brushed the pinned hair without completely disrupting the shape of the curls. Finally, Ashley sprayed the completed look with Rene Furterer Texture Vegetal Spray for a touchable hold that lasted through the festive evening without losing its shape or volume.

Get The Look: Reese Witherspoon’s SAG Awards Elegant Side Swept Curls

Vintage Hollywood glamour came to mind the moment Reese Witherspoon stepped onto the SAG Awards red carpet this past Sunday.

The Big Little Lies actress stunned in a form-fitting, emerald toned Zac Posen gown that hinted at the classic styles of old Hollywood movie stars. The timeless off-the-shoulder silhouette of the dress beautifully framed her soft, side swept curled hair style.

Hairstylist Lona Vigi wanted to create a timeless hair look that felt Old Hollywood yet modern, much like the dramatic chevron print dress Reese wore for the evening’s event. The inspiration for the look came from a conversation with fashion stylist Petra Flannery where they both worked on a campaign for Elizabeth Arden. The final look was all about touchable curls that elegantly fell to her shoulders without losing shape. It was a fresh take on what Lona described as “total movie star hair.” Here’s how you can recreate this beautiful look yourself:

PREP: Starting with freshly washed hair, work in a heat protective leave in conditioner to damp hair. Using your fingers, apply the conditioner from the roots to tips and evenly distribute throughout the hair.

STYLE (Part 1): Once the priming layer of heat protectant is applied, Lona sections the hair and focuses on styling the front, face-framing sections of the hair. She applies gel to the front sections of hair and gathers each into a wave. To promote hold and to further develop the wave shape, she secures each section with flat clips. Once these front sections are dry, Lona sprays each with hairspray to set the desired wave.

STYLE (Part 2): Moving to the bottom sections of the hair, she uses a Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer and meticulously blow dries each section with an Ibiza Hair Round Brush. Using Dyson’s high powered dryer not only cut down styling time but left Reese’s hair smooth with a healthy sheen. Once dried, Lona parted the hair to the side, grabbed a curling iron and curled each freshly blown out section in vertical curls.

FINISH: When the hair is fully curled and the pins are let out, gently brush the hair to blend while focusing on preserving the sexy, modern Old Hollywood waved shape of the hair. To lock in the look and add an extra touch of body, back comb various sections of the hair once in a swift motion. To tame those pesky fly-aways or baby hairs along the face, Lona’s favorite red carpet trip is to sprtiz a toothbrush with hairspray and brush down these troubling hairs.

Hair How-To: Claire Foy’s Strong and Sleek Golden Globes Hair

Much like this year’s powerful theme, Claire Foy’s sleek look for the evening certainly made a statement.

In contrast to the regal look she sports on her show ‘The Crown’, Claire stunned on the red carpet at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards in a custom-made Stella McCartney black suit. In keeping with the suit’s sharp look, celebrity

Celebrity hairstylist Jillian Halouska created a structured hair look that perfectly paired with the black tailored look.

Inspired by vintage imagery by Yves Saint Laurent and Helmut Newton, both Jillian and Claire opted for a hairstyle that had masculine tones but was still feminine. The final result was a pulled back structured look that was modern and softened with a deep side part. Here’s how she achieved this look:

PREP: The best hair looks begin with just washed clean hair. To prep the hair before drying, Jillian sprayed her damp tresses with OGX Protecting + Silk Blowout Quick Drying Thermal Spray prior to blowing out the hair for an added layer of heat protection and shine. She then blew out Claire’s hair using the portable and high powered Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer with a flat paddle brush. This kind of brush allows the hair to get an even, straight look.

STYLE: Once blown out, Jillian worked OGX Natural Finish + Aspen Extract Texture Molding Paste onto small 1-inch sections, meticulously applying product from root to tip. The application technique is similar to that of hair color application and worked incredible well for Claire’s cut. While tedious, working with small sections of hair allows for a complete saturation of product and helps achieve overall shape of the style. To ensure a uniform look and shape, Jillian used clips in the back of the hair.

FINISH: For an elegant touch, Jillian chose to part the hair on the side and swept away from the face. The final look beautifully framed her flawless skin and makeup. To ensure hold and longevity of the shape, Jillian generously sprayed the hair with OGX Smoothing + Shea Humidity Blocking Hairspray before sending her off to the red carpet.

Hair How-To: Katherine Langford’s Golden Globes Hair That Sparkled

Celebrity hairstylist Christian Wood worked with Katherine Langford for the 2018 Golden Globe Award’s on Sunday.

When it comes to the inspiration Christian said, “As soon as I saw her custom Prada dress I wanted to carry the sparkle on the waist band through to the hair.

Here’s how to get the look.

“I started by applying Wella Eimi Full Volume Mousse through-out her wet hair and blow dried smooth with a round brush. Blow dry all the hair backwards lifting at the roots for extra volume.

Next add Wella Eimi Luminous Reflective Oil through- out the ends to add shine and smoothness and make the hair more manageable.

Spray Wella Eimi Dry Me throughout all the roots and leave for 5 minutes to absorb. Once the 5 minutes are up brush all the product out. This helps keep volume in the hair and acts as a powder to prevent natural oils occurring which can make the hair heavy later on.

Using a GHD Soft Curl in Large, take medium sections of hair and wrap around the barrel holding for 10 seconds. Do this through the entire hair in a backwards motion so the hair curls away from the face. Leave to cool completely.

Once cool brush out the waves with a Mason and Pearson till the curls resemble soft glamorous waves, next using a tail comb put a deep side part into the hair and flip the larger side over to create volume and height. Sweep one side back and secure with the individual sparkly stars and gently loosen with your fingers gently pulling the hair for a little added volume.

Shake out the waves with your fingers to add a tiny bit of texture and spray the entire hair with Wella Eimi Stay Firm hairspray for long lasting results.

To finish give the hair a quick spritz with glam mist spray to add a little extra shine.

And for the final touch, Jennifer Behr Venus Bobby Pins and the Vega Bobby Pins Set were added to complete the look.”

BET Awards Hair Trend: Platinum Blonde Bobs

It seems as if the celebrities on the red carpet of the 2017 BET Awards were trying to figure out if blondes really do have more fun. Karrueche Tran, Blac Chyna, Cardi B and Tamar Braxton all showed up to Sunday night’s awards show rocking a platinum blonde blunt bob.

The bob cut is definitely a mane trend for summer 2017 as we’ve noticed countless other celebs sporting the cut in recent months. Specially, the long list of a-listers that rocked the style at last month’s Met Gala – from Selena Gomez’s silky bob to Kim Kardashian’s sleek take on the look, to the blonde wig that Donatella Versace requested that Kylie Jenner wear, the bob dominated the event. So it’s no surprise that Karrueche, Blac Chyna, Cardi B and Tamar Braxton all continued the trend at this year’s BET Awards.

As for the platinum blonde take on the cut?

The bright shade is a summer staple and these four ladies really brought the heat. Celeb hair stylist Tokyo Stylez was responsible for transforming Tran’s tresses as with the help of a platinum wig with tousled waves and side part. The stylist is known for his work with hair pieces and has created custom pieces for various stars like Kylie and Kendall Jenner and Nicki Minaj.

There are many other stylists who create amazing wigs such as Freedom Couture, Hair by Him, Chrissy Bales and A-List Hair.

Since lightening your hair is an intense process, it’s best to leave it to the pro’s but to achieve this trending hue, use Olaplex Hair Perfector three step treatment combined with L’Oreal Paris Feria Absolute Platinum and for maintenance Matrix Total Results Color Obsessed So Silver Shampoo and Balmain Hair’s Ash Toner leave-in treatment that protects and softens the hair and cuts out brassy and yellow tones.

Get the Look: Bella Hadid’s Fringed Bangs at the CFDA Awards

Celebrity Hair Guru Jen Atkin created a fashion girl fringed bang and long bob for Bella Hadid’s CFDA Awards appearance on June 5th to accompany her Off-White Fall 2017 pink blazer dress.

To create the look, Atkin first prepped the damp hair with OUAI Wave Spray for texture and a pump of OUAI Hair Oil for shine. Using the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer, the stylist blew the hair dry and used the FROMM Hot Paddle Brush on the lower half of the head for a smooth, straight look.

Then, to add extra volume, Atkin used the FROMM Copper Thermal Round Brush when blow-drying the top of the head and crown. Once the hair was dry, the stylist created a center part on Hadid and used the 1.25” GHD Curling Iron to curl the ends in towards the face.

Although Hadid’s look was a favorite on the red carpet, the fringe bang was not a permanent alter to her look as Atkin used a Beauty Works Clip-In Fringe hair piece to the front hairline.

To complete the look, the stylist ran a small amount of OUAI Finishing Creme through Hadid’s hair using her hands in order to add smooth and shine and then finished off with OUAI Medium Hair Spray.

Get the Look: Jessica Chastain’s Whimsical Met Gala Braid

Celebrity hair stylist for Moroccanoil Renato Campora created a soft, whimsical braid on Jessica Chastain for the 2017 Met Gala that accentuated the actress’ romantic pale yellow, off the shoulder Prada Gown.

To achieve a hairstyle as regal as the frock, Renato used a dime-sized amount of Moroccanoil Treatment to Jessica’s mane to provide a base for the style, followed by Moroccanoil Volumizing Mousse to layer on to the foundation and create volume.

Renato then used the Moroccanoil 35 MM Boar Bristle Round Brush to blow dry the actress’ tresses straight. One the hair was dry, he used a 1.5 inch curling iron to create texture, natural movement and add radiant shine.

He then created a loose braid at the nape of the neck and used a bobby pin to tuck the tail end of the braid underneath in order to create more volume.

To set the look, the Renato used Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray Strong to give the style long-lasting hold and shine.

Get The Look: Hailee Steinfeld’s Oscar Double Ballerina Buns

Hailee Steinfeld was one of our favourites at the 2017 Oscars. Though her look was simple it also had an air of elegance and maturity beyond her 20 years.

Her Ralph & Russo Couture gown was sheer elegance, and when she turned we were entreated to two ballerina buns down the back of her head that sat atop each other. They mirrored the two rosettes on the back of her gown.

Celeb stylist Chris Appleton said that he took inspiration from her frock in order to create this sleek updo style. “We went for a bold style to compliment the mixture of classic and modern vibe given from her gown.”

Here’s how to create the look.

Prep clean wet hair with TONI & GUY Prep Heat Protection Mist. Section your hair and blow dry it backwards and away from your face using a paddle brush.

Once dry, section off the top half of the hair and gather the lower half into a ponytail at the back of the head.

Then apply TONI & GUY Style Spray Wax throughout the top section for a high-shine effect and begin curling hair using a 1-inch curling iron.
Once your hair is cooled, gently brush the curls out and join to the existing ponytail.

Wrap sections of hair from the pony tail in a clockwise motion above and below, twisting into a flower shape. Secure with pins.

Set the look with TONI & GUY Medium Hold Hairspray.

Get The Look: Dakota Johnson’s ‘Perfectly Imperfect’ Fifty Shades Darker Braid

Dove Celebrity Stylist Mark Townsend created Dakota Johnson’s amazing hairstyle at for the LA premiere of ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ last night.

He said, “For the Fifty Shades Darker premiere, we really wanted the focus to be on Dakota’s gorgeous dress. We decided to keep her hair out of her face by doing a long, textured braid in the back.”

“I started by spraying TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Root Boosting Spray to her damp roots and then blew her hair out with my mixed bristle round brush.”

“Once her hair was dry, I set the top mohawk section with duck bill clips to create volume. I then sprayed my paddle brush with Dove Volume & Fullness Dry Shampoo and vigorously brushed all of her hair in the back for volume and texture.

“Once her hair had the perfect texture, I went in and twisted uneven sections of her locks into braids and twists. As I went along, I used dark bobby pins to keep the loose bits secured.”

“When I was happy with the plait, I secured it with a few Blax elastics. I then released the mohawk section from the duck bill clips and used a bit of Dove Absolute Curls Crème Serum to get a bit of shine on the front.”

“I topped this look off by pulling her front pieces back and securing it with dark scunci bobby pins. The result is a perfectly imperfect play on a plaited textured look.”

Get The Look: Kate Bosworth’s ‘The Art Of More’ Grecian-Inspired Braid

Kate Bosworth's 'The Art Of More' Grecian-Inspired Braid

Celebrity hairstylist Bridget Brager worked with Kate Bosworth for SAG Foundation’s Conversation on ‘The Art of More’ in Los Angeles last week.

“For Kate’s look, we wanted to do a ‘cool girl’ braid. Something a bit different, but not too flashy,” said Bridget.

Here’s how to get the look.

Bridget started by giving Kate a wavy, ‘bed head’ look. She added a little Sachajuan Ocean Mist, gave it a rough blow-dry, and curl-wanded with a T3 Whirl Trio. That’s all you need for lived-in waves.

She started by creating a deep side part, then Dutch-braided the hair down the side of her head, following her hairline. The idea was to have the braid continuing its way down, just behind the ear and then wrapping around the nape. She secured the braid with a bobby pin.

To finish the look, she used Kevin Murphy Powder Puff to create some volume and texture in the braid as she pulled it apart for a more lived-in feel.
