Zoe Saldana Wore Alaïa To The Breakthrough Prize Ceremony
Zoe Saldana made a return to the red carpet for the Breakthrough Prize Ceremony held on Saturday, and I was surprised not to see her in Saint Laurent.

At the same time, it felt refreshing not to see another black lace Saint Laurent dress, especially given her recent run has been uninspiring.
On this occasion, she turned to Pieter Mulier’s final Alaïa collection, wearing a burnt-orange velvet bustier dress layered over matching velvet trousers. It’s a look that taps into the growing appetite for velvet in the last seven days, as celebrities continue to dress a season ahead.
While velvet in Santa Monica in April feels very out of sync, there’s no denying how well this works on her. The sculpted bustier brings all the drama, tapping into Mulier’s modernity, and I’m just thankful we have a shape other than a column one.
However, I feel like she could have done better in the footwear department. Granted, the runway didn’t offer much direction, but the ankle-strap pumps feel slightly disconnected from the strength of the look.
Cartier jewels completed her look.
