Zendaya Wore Armani Privé To ‘The Drama’ Rome Premiere

When I saw Zendaya on the red carpet for The Drama Rome premiere this evening, I said, “Things are finally getting interesting.”

As we all know, the theme for this press tour is “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.”

Rome delivers the “something borrowed” chapter, and the choice could not be more perfect.

Zendaya stepped out in an Armani Privé black gown that many of you will instantly recognise, first worn by Cate Blanchett to the 2022 SAG Awards and again in 2025 for La Grazia at the Venice Film Festival.

This is the kind of narrative-driven red carpet moment that immediately draws me in. It breaks the run of all-white looks that had started to feel a little too on-message and samey, replacing them with something far more considered.

The gown itself, with its plunging neckline of onyx stones, and architectural elongated silhouette, already carries presence. But placing an Italian couture piece, previously worn by Cate Blanchett, onto the Rome red carpet adds another layer. It feels location-aware, archive-conscious, and entirely in step with Zendaya as a red carpet storyteller.

And then there is the quiet nod to her reputation. Zendaya has long embraced archival dressing, but this takes it further. Aligning herself with a look so closely associated with Cate Blanchett – arguably the modern standard-bearer for re-wearing on the red carpet – positions her firmly within that conversation, while still making the moment her own.

Most importantly, this resets the tone of the press tour. The white narrative served its purpose, but this shift into something darker, sharper, and more referential opens the door to what comes next.

If this is “something borrowed,” then the anticipation for “something blue” just became a lot more interesting.

Update: Zendaya is even wearing the same Louis Vuitton earrings Cate wore in Venice, along with the Perception ring and Optimisme ring and from Awakened Hands, Awakened Minds High Jewelry collection

Stylist: Law Roach.
