Lauryn Hill Wore Cheney Chan Couture To The 2025 Met Gala

Lauryn Hill reminded us what a statement actually looks like at the 2025 Met Gala. Drenched in a rich, unapologetic yellow, she lit up the room in Cheney Chan Couture like a beam of golden hour light, proving that this theme—Superfine: Tailoring Black Style—was made for her, on her Met Gala debut.

Lauryn’s natural affinity for soulful, layered style showed up and showed out. The oversized suit was pure magic: modern menswear minimalism meets architectural drama. The exaggerated shoulders, razor-sharp lapels, and those crisp, angular cuts were majestic. Somehow structured and soft all at once, it gave the elegance of a power suit with the grace of a fashion sermon.

The styling might be divisive. But there’s something so endearingly real about the Hermès Kelly bag in that perfect pop of blue, those shades worn with zero apology, and the handheld gold encrusted fan. Add the teased-out afro and you’ve got regal rich auntie energy dialled up to a ten. It’s the kind of personal style confidence you can’t fake.

If I had to nitpick, I’d take a few inches off the trousers—only because I want to see the full silhouette sing. But honestly, when a look has this much personality, it doesn’t need to be hem-perfect to be iconic.
