Margaret Qualley Wore Chanel To The ‘Blue Moon’ Berlin Film Festival Photocall & Premiere

Margaret Qualley has been busy in Berlin, joining her co-star Ethan Hawke to promote their new film, Blue Moon. As a Chanel ambassador, youโ€™d expect her to deliver quintessential French-girl chic, but did her looks hit the right notes?

I know some of you are craving more variety from Margaret, but I have to say, I really liked her Chanel Spring 2025 black iridescent tweed dress. It felt refreshingly modern and avoided the usual predictability of her Chanel selections. The slits on the skirt and the contrasting white collar gave the look an interesting edge, keeping it from feeling too prim.

Now, letโ€™s address the elephant in the roomโ€”her shoes. They donโ€™t match the vibe of the dress at all, but at this point, Iโ€™ve made peace with Chanelโ€™s footwear choices. That said, this wouldโ€™ve been the perfect moment to follow in the stylish footsteps of Marion Cotillard and Vicky Krieps, who have been serving in those incredible over-the-knee boots at the festival. Can you imagine how much bolder and more striking Margaretโ€™s look wouldโ€™ve been with that styling twist? Chanel Fine Jewelry completed her ensemble.

Premiere

While the photocall look had potential, the evening premiere outfit wasโ€ฆ less thrilling. Margaret opted for a Chanel Spring 2020 Haute Couture long-flared herringbone coat in grey and white ribbon with an embroidered pelerine collar. And I hate to say it, but this look aged her dramatically. It was giving โ€œfashion historian at a winter museum exhibit,โ€ rather than young, effortlessly chic actress at a major film festival.

And the ivory and black Chanel boots? Absolutely not. They had no business being anywhere near this coat. The entire ensemble lacked cohesion, and then we had the unexpected addition of clip-in bangs. It was just one puzzling choice after another. Honestly, even Tilda Swinton would struggle to make this work.

Margaret couldโ€™ve had her pick of stunning Chanel pieces, so itโ€™s frustrating that this was the selection. It was a strong day but a disappointing night for her fashion-wise. Chanel High Jewelry completed the look, but unfortunately, even diamonds couldnโ€™t save this one.
