Celebrities at the 2025 Goya Awards
While some red carpets are a race to wear the latest runway looks, the 2025 Goya Awards had other ideas. This weekend, archival fashion reigned supreme, proving that great couture never truly goes out of style. Joining Nieves Álvarez in the glamour stakes, these stars embraced a mix of nostalgia, elegance, and a touch of déjà vu.

A timeless vision in Carolina Herrera
Receiving the highest honour the Spanish Film Academy can bestow, Aitana Sánchez Gijón looked every inch the legend she is in a lilac and black striped Carolina Herrera Spring 2024 strapless gown. Power, grace, and beauty radiated from her, making this the perfect choice for her Goya of Honour 2025 moment.

Black and lilac Carolina Herrera gowns were trending
Black and lilac were trending on this red carpet, and Amaia Salamanca kept the theme alive in a Carolina Herrera Fall 2023 gown—one that might look familiar, as Kathryn Newton wore it for the 2023 SAG Awards. I’ll admit, I did prefer Kathryn’s lilac bow-accented heels for a more playful touch, whereas Amaia went for classic black pumps. Still, a stunning choice.

Déjà vu in Armani Privé
Alejandra Gere wore a stunning Armani Privé Fall 2019 black strapless gown with pearls and crystals. If it reminds you of Amanda Seyfried’s 2021 Oscar gown, you’re not alone—it’s the same silhouette and bodice.

Just gets better with age. I’m referring to both the gown and Mr Gere.

A well-traveled Armani Privé moment
Elena Anaya graced the red carpet in an Armani Privé Fall 2014 strapless black and red gown with tulle overlay. This dress has been on quite the journey, first worn by Rocio Munoz Morales and Paloma Faith in 2015. None of them opted for the original headpiece, but they all played it safe with black pumps.

Renaissance glamour with a modern twist
Ester Expósito wore a pale green Vivienne Westwood off-the-shoulder gown which felt like a Renaissance-inspired moment with all the draping and corsetry we love from Westwood. Knowing Ester’s signature style the way we do, she of course she made it a leggy affair. Some things are just meant to be.

Fifteen years later, and still breathtaking
Whenever I see someone in a gown from Armani Privé Fall 2010, I feel nostalgic. This strapless piece remains as breathtaking as ever. Some may wish Greta Fernández’s styling had brought more drama—either in the hair and/or makeup department. but the serene mood of her styling only enhances the beauty of this breathtaking gown. That said, I did prefer the gown without the central slit when Claire Danes wore it to the 2010 Emmys. Wow, that was 15 years ago. Time flies.

Shining bright in Armani Privé
Juana Acosta dug deep into the archives, pulling out an Armani Privé Spring 2006 dress that shimmered under the lights in the best way possible. The micro-embellishments caught every angle just right, proving that sometimes, older designs still outshine newer ones.

An Alberta Ferretti upgrade
I was not a fan of this Alberta Ferretti Fall 2024 tulle dress with medal embroidery when Eva Longoria first wore it to the amfAR Venezia 2024 back in September. So imagine my delight seeing Maribel Verdú make it her own by lining the dress and presenting it with her usual grace. This is leagues better than both Eva’s take and the runway version.

A Dior disaster
I appreciate Marina Guerola’s risk-taking with this Dior Resort 2025 look, but even the pretty black sheer floral embroidered skirt couldn’t save that bodice. Between the stiffness, the straps, and the overwhelming laces, it was a hard no from me. Sometimes, you just have to admit when a design isn’t working.

Odd Woman Out
Not everyone wore a gown, as Patricia Lopez Arnaiz wore a Loewe Spring 2025 look featuring those infamous oversized trousers styled with black Campo Loafers. Honestly, this pinstripe version is my favourite so far, and that has a lot to do with the two pieces matching and the styling.

The grand finale
If you were waiting for some big gown drama, Mina El Hammani delivered. This gold and beige devoré Tony Ward Fall 2024 Couture strapless bustier gown brought all the opulence one could ask for. It was a grand, statement-making look that sealed the night in pure elegance.
With archival fashion ruling the night, the 2025 Goya Awards reminded us that great style is timeless. From well-worn classics to refreshed vintage treasures, these stars proved that sometimes, looking to the past is the best way to make a statement in the present.
